Futurus Background:

The Futurus Programme is the key graduate entry career development programme within the Bank of Ireland Group. The objective is to enhance graduate entrants’ technical and personal skills through a structured and supportive programme which will strengthen our future senior leadership talent pipeline.

It is aimed at high calibre graduates and provides a comprehensive, consistent and integrated programme which will support the development of a broad group mindset and rounded skill set in all graduates. Participants are given a combined opportunity to develop both specialist skills and personal development. These skills will equip graduates to develop their careers and challenge for significant roles in the future.

Graduate Programme: Business Banking

Business Background:

The Business Banking (BB) Development Programme is designed to raise the standard of banking, and to help develop our next generation of Business Banking managers. Providing you with front-line exposure to our fast-moving retail banking environments, the three year programme will see you tackle a number of assignments where you will develop the all-round skills and experience you’ll need to build relationships and lead and inspire your own team to achieve results. Placements will include a 2 month introduction into Branch Banking, Business Manager Assistant role, 12 months within our Credit/Underwriting function and/or Business Banking followed by a Senior Business Manager placement and one to one support in a shadow role to a Business Advisor based in a Retail or Commercial Branch to gain portfolio management skills.

Training & Development:

We have set out a clear training / learning plan for each Graduate over the three years in conjunction with the Branch Network and Group Credit. There will be continuous assessment through the three years with a final end of programme Assessment Centre at the end of year three. This is in conjunction with the training received as part of the Futurus programme which is for a period of 2 years.

Provided each graduate has successfully completed each placement, completed the necessary training / learning, passed all assessments, including the end of programme assessment as well as completed their QFA and Certificate in Business Banking, they will then graduate from the programme. The programme is certified by the Institute of Bankers.

It is envisaged that by the end of the Programme, graduates should be in the position to begin challenging for Business Advisor roles at that point or within the next 6 months. From there, the likely career path is that of Business Manager.

Graduate Programme: Financial Analyst – Group Finance

Business Background:

Group Finance performs a key management and control function in supporting the Group’s objective to be the pre-eminent consumer, business and corporate bank in Ireland. The Group Finance function comprises a number of teams at Group level, including Finance Services, Group Tax, Group Planning & Analysis, Group Decision Support, Financial Control Reporting, Technical Accounting, Group Treasury, and other Divisional Finance functions.

Finance Services (FS) is the accounting services provider for the Bank of Ireland Group and facilitates the majority of rotations for the graduate programme. The FS operation is the hub of Finance for BOI Group underpinned by common processes, service excellence and proactive management of relationships. The FS Group is responsible for the operation and maintenance of General Ledgers, preparation of reporting packs including Management and Financial accounts, regulatory reporting, annual Statutory accounts, MIS and support other finance processes (e.g. budgeting and forecasting).

The Group Finance graduate programme will consist of rotations throughout different business units in Finance over a four year period to ensure robust development of each graduate. The aim of the programme is to support each graduate in attaining their accountancy qualification, while providing opportunities for development through on the job training, engagement with senior management, structured training agendas in conjunction with Accenture, coaching and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities:

Graduates will support the provision of Finance support to the business and business partners teams by assisting in the:-

· Production of timely and accurate financial and management information ensuring integrity of data at all times at business unit, Divisional or Group level.

· Preparation of ‘Ad hoc’ analysis, interpretation and reporting for Business Partners and Business Management Teams.

· Preparation of additional data analysis to support projections / variance analysis etc.

· Collation and provision of Business Unit information to Finance Services and Group.

· Completion of budget and forecast templates for the Business Unit.

· Working closely with Finance Services to ensure FS capability and services are optimised to support delivery to customer.

· Carry out analytical review of financial data and provide meaningful and causal commentary.

· Ensure appropriate operational and SOx controls are adhered to regarding processes being used.

· Work with various areas and management within Finance to ensure the highest level of support is given to customers.

· Actively challenge the status quo and seek to re-engineer processes to bring about greater control, effectiveness and process efficiency.
