Early Childhood Student Scholarship

2010

Scholarship Guidelines: College Students

I. Eligibility

i. Must be pursuing undergraduate/graduate coursework which includes the following:

· Associate in Early Childhood/Early Childhood Development

· Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood/Special Education

· Masters/Doctorate in Early Childhood or Early Childhood/Special Education

OR

· Masters/Doctorate in Literacy (Birth – Grade 6 with an Associate or Bachelors in Early Childhood or Early Childhood/Special Education)

ii. Proof of enrollment in institution of higher learning: letter of acceptance or current official transcript.

iii. Must be in good academic standing.

II. Procedure for applying (See applications for specific requirements.)

a. Submit application, proof of eligibility, and letters of reference to:

III. Scholarship Presentation

a. Scholarship winners will be notified by May 21, 2010

Scholarship Guidelines: High School Students

I. Eligibility

a. Presently a student in Erie #1 BOCES Early Childhood Education Curriculum or West Seneca Academy of Education Early Childhood Program

AND

b. Completed application and letter of acceptance in an Associate or Bachelors degree program in Early Childhood or Early Childhood/Special Education prior to scholarship award.

II. Procedure for Applying

a. Submit application to a BOCES or Academy of Education instructor by April 2, 2010 . See application for specific requirements.

b. Instructor sends application and letters of reference by April 16 , 20 10 to:

III. Scholarship Presentations

a. Scholarship winners will be notified by May 15, 2009.

b. Scholarships will be presented at the AEYC of WNY annual dinner in June.

Association for the Education of Young Children of Western New York

Student Scholarship Application

(Nominations will be rated based on a scoring rubric.)

Each year, AEYC of WNY recognizes people in our community who are actively pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. The winners of this award will receive monetary assistance to help with educational expenses. Recognition will be given at the year-end dinner in June.

III. Letters of Recommendations (must be current)

A. College Applicants: Submit one letter of recommendation from an AEYC of Western New York member and one letter of recommendation from an individual of applicant’s own choosing.

B. High School Applicants: One letter of recommendation must be submitted from a BOCES or Academy of Education teacher and one from an individual of applicant’s own choosing.

IV. Scholarship Award

A. Individuals receiving the scholarship awards will be required to provide verification of college enrollment in one of the following:

Associate in Early Childhood/Early Childhood Development

Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood/Special Education

Masters/Doctorate in Early Childhood or Early Childhood/Special Education

OR

Masters/Doctorate in Literacy (Birth – Grade 8 with an Associate or Bachelors in Early Childhood or Early Childhood/Special Education)

B. Individuals receiving the scholarship awards will submit a report explaining how the award was utilized.

C. Individuals receiving the scholarship awards will be required to attend and volunteer at one of the workshops sponsored by our local organization.
