JOB SUMMARY: This is a one-year position funded by an Arizona Board of Regents grant. The job is to manage the program of the Masters of Geographic Education degree by
(a) putting together the on-line curriculum materials for all course comprising the degree;
(b) working with focus groups of teacher members of the Arizona Geographic Alliance to refine student assessment for the courses; (c) recruiting future students to the program; (d) recruiting future instructors to the program; (e) working with the director of the Masters of Geographic Education degree in all matters pertaining to the degree program; (f) working with the Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Geography and (g) working with the Arizona Geographic Alliance in articulating the degree program with ongoing K-12 teacher professional development activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.  Work with the Department of Geography’s Graduate Coordinator in following all policies regarding the recruitment, processing, and orientation of graduate students
2.  Take existing curriculum material available to the Arizona Geographic Alliance and create on-line course material in physical geography, human geography, world regional geography, geographic techniques, North American and Arizona geography, geography across the K-12 curriculum, and geographic pedagogy.
3.  Work with focus groups of teachers in the Arizona Geographic Alliance, to create on-line assessment materials in in physical geography, human geography, world regional geography, geographic techniques, North American and Arizona geography, geography across the K-12 curriculum, and geographic pedagogy.
4.  Work with professors of geography at Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University, to create new streaming video presentations to enhance the on-line course material in in physical geography, human geography, world regional geography, geographic techniques, North American and Arizona geography, geography across the K-12 curriculum, and geographic pedagogy.
5.  Work with Professor Liz Hinde of the College of Teacher Education and Leadership at ASU West, to create streaming video presentations of best practices in geographic pedagogy.
6.  Work with Professor Billie Enz of the College of Education at ASU Tempe, to articulate the geographic curriculum to the capstone College of Education courses of “Applied Project” and “Introduction to Research”.
7.  Recruit the first class of “apprentice” teachers to enroll in the on-line masters in geographic education. These “apprentice teachers” will be those individuals who will receive tuition reduction for the courses that they then teach upon completion of their masters.
8.  Recruit the first class of teachers to enroll in the on-line masters in geographic education
9.  Be able to teach the following on-line courses during the first year of the masters in geographic education program: human geography for teachers; world regional geography for teachers; geographic techniques for teachers; North American and Arizona geography for teachers; geography across the K-12 curriculum; physical geography for teachers; and an inroduction to geography pedagogy
10.  Organize and run the orientation for newly enrolled teachers in the masters in geographic education program.

1.  Travel around Arizona to recruit teachers to participate in this on-line masters in geographic education.
2.  Full participate in Arizona Geographic Alliance functions to connect the on-line masters program with the teacher outreach programs run by the Arizona Geographic Alliance.
3.  Be available to answer questions by all on-line students regarding course materials.
4.  Be able to redirect detailed knolwedge questions regarding geography content to professors of geography.
5.  Be able to recruit teachers who have completed this masters program to be instructors in future years.
