Roles will be dependant upon the nature of the job description, however, Signpost Recovery and its key stakeholders aim to provide a range of evidence-based, non-judgemental intervention and supports for people requiring a variety of supports, involving individual assessment and a person centred approach to developing Care and Risk Management plans, as well as providing assistance in accessing other relevant services. Signpost Recovery believes in a community facing and asset based approach to all aspects of its care provision.

Organisational Profile:

Due to expansion we now require to recruit for a number of roles within our organisation. Signpost Recovery is Scottish based registered charity limited by guarantee (SC 033772). Signpost Recovery is governed by a Board of Directors. The aim of Signpost Recovery is to provide advice, information, support and access to treatment for clients and their families affected by substance misuse in the Forth Valley area- Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire. Signpost is now involved in a number of partnerships with NHS Forth Valley for the provision of Addiction Recovery services both in community and prison settings. Signpost is also proud to work in partnership with Combat Stress and Forth Valley ADP for the new Forth Valley Veterans Substance Misuse Case Management Service. STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Veterans Addiction Recovery Worker

Responsible to: Veterans Substance Misuse Case Management Nurse/Operations Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours a week

2. JOB PURPOSE:

Working as part of the Forth Valley Veterans Substance Misuse Case Management Service to provide a range of evidence-based, non-judgemental intervention and supports for veterans affected by a range of problem substance use issues, involving individual assessment and a counselling approach to developing Care and Risk Management plans, as well as providing assistance in accessing other relevant services. The post holder will be an integral member of the Forth Valley Veterans Substance Misuse Case Management Service. The post holder will work throughout the Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Council areas. Travel within the geographic area will be required.

Due to the unique nature of this post and its duties both internal and external, there is a high degree of joint working involved.

3. OUTLINE OF JOB PURPOSE:

Working in partnership with Combat Stress and other relevant services and within the Scottish Government (2014) National Quality Principles framework, provide an accessible, responsive and recovery orientated service aimed at supporting, advising and helping veterans with problem substance misuse to reduce, control and cease that use.


4. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive referrals and carry out assessments of veterans affected by problem substance use and mental health issues.
  • Work with veterans to help them identify their personal, health and social issues.

·  Contribute to overall recovery/treatment plan for service users, for example, developing problem solving skills or supporting veterans in the application of psychological approaches in managing any challenging behaviour.

  • Where appropriate, provide intensive outreach support to help veterans address complex and sometimes emotional social issues related to their problem substance use.
  • Assist veterans to achieve optimal level of social functioning and promote social inclusion including encouragement to expand their social and leisure activities.

·  Assist and support veterans with application forms / documentation as appropriate (i.e. housing & benefit forms etc), liaising and referring as necessary to appropriate agencies, and assist the veteran to build independence and promote recovery. This includes assisting veterans to overcome concerns about engaging with other welfare or health providers.

·  Develop and maintain a sound knowledge of local resources including statutory and non-statutory agencies, to enable referral or opportunities for self-help or mutual aid for service users.

  • Manage a defined caseload of veterans referred to the service experiencing a variety of substance misuse problems.
  • Ensure that all assessments, client plans, notes, records and reviews are kept up to date and stored securely in accordance with information governance protocols.
  • Submit statistical and performance returns accurately and on time.
  • Positively promote the service as and when appropriate.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Signpost Recovery and work to the requirements laid down in the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice and the Scottish Government (2014) National Quality Principles for service delivery within Drug and Alcohol Services.
  • Undertake and maintain an acceptable Enhanced Disclosure in accordance with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups legislation (2007).

·  Will be aware of responsibilities in relation to children and adults in need of support and/ or protection.

  • Provide written or oral reports pertaining to casework, child protection or other matters relative to your employment, as required by Veterans Substance Misuse Case Management Nurses or Operations Manager.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required.
  • Recognise the emotional demands involved in the post and utilise available supports for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Contribute towards the supervision, support and development of learners deployed across the organisation and students and trainees on placement.

5. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Openly communicate and work closely with and co-operate with your colleagues, supervisors and service manager in order provide a seamless, co-ordinated service for all our clients.

External: Work with colleagues of other services and agencies and with individuals engaged in services to drug and alcohol users as appropriate, with the express purpose of enhancing the service to your client.

6. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

·  Service within UK armed forces and / or lived experience which contributes to a unique understanding of the military and/or veteran community

·  SVQ lll in health and social care, counselling OR equivalent level of experience, plus experience in caring role, e.g., as an addictions support worker

·  Completed addictions/recovery support training or other specialist training (e.g., peer support volunteers course etc.)

·  Experience of working in an enabling role (i.e. addictions support outreach work, or other similar voluntary work)

·  Have knowledge and understanding of welfare, social, educational and mental health and wellbeing issues relevant to Veterans

·  Effective written and verbal communication skills

·  A mature, responsible, empathic outlook on care delivery which respects service user dignity and human rights.

The post-holder will demonstrable ability to:

·  Manage addiction support working, utilising skills and experience engage veterans and carers in the development of services (i.e. service users meetings, individual discussion with clients etc.)

·  Carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment.

·  Be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.

·  You will have an understanding of the issues in relation to problem drug and alcohol use in communities and an ability to apply this knowledge in the context of local policies and procedures as well as the drug and alcohol strategies currently being pursued in Scotland; in particular the Scottish Government (2008) ‘The Road to Recovery’ and the Scottish Government (2014) Quality of Alcohol Treatment Services policy.
