GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:

1. Words are not put into sentences.

2. Sentences are fragmented.

3. Sentences do not express ideas clearly.

4. Student does not use nouns, pronouns, and verbs appropriately.

5. Correct punctuation is not used.

6. Capital letters are used incorrectly or not at all.

7. Word endings are missing or used incorrectly.

8. Words in sentences are in correct order.

9. Extra words are used inappropriately in sentences.

10. Student is unable to read his/her written work when completed.

11. Little or no agreement between subjects and predicates.

12. Student does not incorporate sentences into paragraphs.

13. Sentences in paragraphs are not in logical order.

SPELLING:

1. Words are not spelled as they sound (phonetically).

2. Does not utilize proper sound-symbol relationships.

3. Initial symbol is generally incorrect.

4. Final symbol is generally incorrect.

5. Letters are out of sequence.

6. Generally uses incorrect vowel letters.

7. Exhibits the same errors when copying as when writing from memory.

8. Student relies heavily on configuration of words.

HANDWRITING:

1. Slant of letters is not uniform.

2. Upper and lower case letters are incorrectly formed.

3. Uses a mixture of cursive and manuscript letters.

4. Letters and words are crowded.

5. Many gaps and/or spaces between letters and words.

6. Size of letters is not uniform.

7. Letters are not placed on lines properly.

8. Upper and lower case letters are used inappropriately.

9. Quality of writing deteriorates with length of task.

10. Does not complete written tasks.

11. Work is not completed within specified time period.

12. Written work exhibits many erasures.

13. Writing is either very dark or very light.

14. Letters and/or words are reversed.
