10 PUBLIC POWER SYSTEMS EARN ANNUAL REPORT AWARDS

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 26, 2004 -- Ten public power electric utilities earned awards from the American Public Power Association for their most recent annual reports. The awards were presented Oct. 26 at the association’s Customer Connections Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Awards were judged based on annual report copy, design, financial data, creativity, graphics, organization, and communicating the utility’s special story.

Winners are:

Class A – entrants with gross revenues of $400 million or more

z Award of Excellence – Omaha Public Power District, Omaha, Neb.

z Award of Merit – Nashville Electric Service, Nashville, Tenn.

Class B – entrants with gross revenues of $200 million-$399,999,999

z Award of Excellence – EPB (Electric Power Board), Chattanooga, Tenn.

z Award of Merit – Huntsville Utilities, Huntsville, Ala.

Class C – entrants with gross revenues of $100 million-$199,999,999

z Award of Excellence – Kissimmee Utility Authority, Kissimmee, Fla.

z Award of Merit – Public Utility District No. 1 of Chelan County, Wenatchee, Wash.

Class D – entrants with gross revenues of $50 million-$99,999,999

z Award of Excellence – Muscatine Power and Water, Muscatine, Iowa

z Award of Merit – Brownsville Public Utilities Board, Brownsville, Texas

Class E – entrants with gross revenues of less than $50 million

z Award of Excellence – Moorhead Public Service, Moorhead, Minn.

z Award of Merit – Columbia River People’s Utility District, St. Helen’s, Ore.

Annual report contest judges were Susanna Duff Barnett, reporter, The Bond Buyer, Washington, D.C.; Zoe Dawson, manager of public and corporate relations, Alliance to Save Energy, Washington, D.C., and; Bill Whitt, president, Ambertone Press, Springfield, Va.

APPA conducts the annual report contest to encourage and recognize excellence in communications.
