AltaVita Memory Care Centre, 800 S. Fordham St. Longmont, CO 80503
HELLO FROM….
AUDREY:
I want to thank you all for attending our 5-year anniversary and being a part of these great years.
We were able to congratulate 12 staff members with a 5-year anniversary commemoration-something that is difficult for many facilities to say.
Here’s looking forward to even more 5 years for staff members down the road. We could not do it without them.
Speaking of: I want to take a moment to take note of Care Provider Appreciation Month-thank you to all our wonderful care providers!
Alta Vita is again the leading team for Boulder County’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s! Several staff members have been working hard to decorate a bowling pin to auction off at our annual Bowl for Brains fundraiser. We will be having an in-house competition for best pin. Please drop your spare change in their accompanying jar as a vote for your favorite. And of course- come down to Centennial Lanes June 23rdwith 3 others as a team for a fun filled afternoon of bowling! See you there 12p-3pm! Food will be provided

BONNIE
Hi Everyone! I wanted to remind all visitors to please not bring gum in for our residents. They leave it on the furniture and sometimes on the floor, and it creates quite a mess sometimes. If you want to bring something similar to gum, or as a treat, I would suggest maybe salt water taffy or gum drops. Hopefully we will be heading towards warmer weather; so please plan on bringing cooler clothes and trading them out for winter clothes. Please remember to mark their name on everything different that you bring in. I also wanted to let everyone know that if you are approached about putting your loved one on Hospice, it’s not because I think they’re dying right now, no one can predict that. I am approaching you to ask for Hospice because I’m seeing a decline and I think they would benefit from the extra services and support that hospice offers. Let me know if you have any questions about Hospice or anything else.

GEMMA
Summer is here and we have lots of fun summer activities planned, so please feel free to join us for whatever you can………patios will probably be the place to be, so grab a popsicle and come enjoy the season with us!!!! Now the weather is reliable and warm, we will probably be heading out into the mountains more, so if any of you would like to volunteer for any field trips, then please let Gemma or Vicky know – the more volunteers we have the easier and more fun the trips are! IF you ever want to help with art or be trained as a Memories in the Making Volunteer through the Alzheimer’s Association, we can arrange that for you. Also, if you could bring a sun hat and sunglasses for your loved one that would be great!!!! Please give them to Vicky or myself and we can name them and always have them handy. Thanks for all you do – have a great summer – stay cool out there!!!!!

What’s Cookin’ with KRISTEN:
June is here and Father’s Day is around the corner, it is time to drag out those grills and fire them up…
One of my favorite items is Tri-Tip. This simple beef is perfect for many uses. Grill it up, low and slow, and serve it as it is, or cut it up for fajitas, tacos, enchiladas or anything else that calls for a flavorful meat. My favorite is low and slow on the grill and serving it as is.
Grilled Tri-Tip Roast
Ingredients:
2 pounds’ tri-tip roast
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
Instructions:
1.  Preheat grill and prepare for indirect grilling. Lightly oil the cooking grate on your grill with a high smoke point oil. To do this, you will need a large pair of outdoor cooking tongs, folded paper towels, and oil. Grasp folded paper towels with tongs and dip into oil. Wipe across grill grates 2-3 times to create a nice non-stick surface. Do this once the grill has reached full temperature and right before placing meat onto the grill grates.
2.  Combine garlic powder, onion powder, pepper and salt. Rub it over the surface of the tri-tip roast making sure to get an even coating.
3.  Place tri-tip on the grill, fat side up. You can place a drip pan underneath to catch the dripping which will make a great gravy later on. Add a little water to the pan (about 1/2 cup) to help the gravy along. With the grill on low cook for about 1 hour or until the beef roast reaches your desired doneness.
4.  Remove tri-tip roast from grill and tent with aluminum foil. Let meat rest for 10-12 minutes. This will help the juices to redistribute. Slice an and

In astrology, those born between June 1–20
are Twins of Gemini. Twins have two distinct
and alluring sides to their personality: sociable
and ready for fun, or serious and thoughtful. Sometimes they feel as if one half is missing,
so they forever seek new friends. Those born between June 21–30 are Cancer’s Crabs. Kind and protective, Crabs love to nurture others. While they may be emotional, they are never soft. Cancers are tenacious in their pursuit
of harmony at home and in the workplace.

exuberant Persuasions-
WHAT we love best about summer ………
Shirley B – I worked at a summer resort in MN and we had guests from all over. I was a waitress but we could all use all the facilities – even fishing! I made some really good friends. I went for at least 6 years. It was a wonderful experience and I will never forget it.
Gloria – I love the summer because it is warm outside.
Jan S – My favorite thing about summer is that it is SUMMER!
Dei – My family is big and we have a ball the whole summer when we all get together. We get along beautifully. There was 1 boy and 6 girls! My brother was always very shy among us girls.
Elizabeth- Summer is not my favorite!!! It is just too hot for me!
Joyce – I like the food in summer – we had a lot of cookouts – my Dad liked to cook and I did too – we were the chief cooks every summer.
Jeanne – I like the summer. I travelled all over the world.
Nance – I am not a fan of summer.
Norma – I love summer. I have 2 older brothers and we played a lot! My Dad worked with horses and we worked and rode and played with them all summer long.
Gerry – It’s warm in the summer – that is the best part!
Shirley B and Don – Our favorite thing about summer is being with our family all together in the sunshine.
Queeda – I love fishing - I grew up on a ranch and we had lots of tourists renting our horses so it was always very busy. I loved the tourists because they were on vacation and were always happy!
Peggy – I like the weather the best about summer. I don’t like it when it is too hot, but you have to just put up with it, because there is so much more to do in the summer than in the winter, so you have to just get outside!!!
Ree – I like to be outdoors – especially by the water.
Jack – I had a boat and we would take it up and down the river – they were such good times. We went all over the place!
Tony – I like summer and I don’t like it. I like the freedom of summer, but sometimes it is just too hot!
Ron D – I like having a good time – we would have family reunions and I played baseball when I was a kid.
Caroline – I like the things that are soft like ice cream and sand.
Lee – I like every day of the summer, especially if it is not too hot /

Long warm days of summer are upon us,
and as we shed our heavy winter clothes,
our souls feel light again.
The flowers are in full bloom, watered
by the seasonal rains
and the creeks have risen as the frogs leap
and the birds serenade us
with their symphonic chorus.
We are drawn to the coolness of the water
and our thirst is quenched leaving
us refreshed and relaxed.
We feel like frolicking children
free and joyful
under the golden summer moon.

The Warm days make us feel
happy, free and lively.
We want to dance around like children
and bask in the sun.
We fish and swim and play and
start talking to neighbors and friends again
out in our garden
with its symphony of fragrance.
