Is your Medical Staff Services Professional (Medical Staff Coordinator, Medical Staff Secretary, Credentialing Coordinator or Manager/Director of Medical Staff Services) a member of the Alaksa Association of Medical Staff Professionals (AKAMSP) and the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS)? If not, then you should be aware that they are missing out on a great opportunity!

The Alaska Association Medical Staff Professionals is an excellent education and leadership organization for medical staff and credentialing professionals right here in Alaska. The following are a few benefits AKAMSP provides to its membership:

· Networking opportunities and continuing education credits though attendance at the AKAMSP Annual Education Conference.

· Updates on the latest State, JCAHO and NCQA standards and survey processes

· Updates from the National Association Medical Staff Services, as well as other State Associations

· Advance notice and registration discounts to the AKAMSP Annual Education Conference

The goals of our organization are to:

· Promote a positive, professional image both for members and for the association.

· Assist in advancing the skills and competence of practicing medical staff service professionals and provider credentialing specialists.

· Assist association members in understanding and succeeding in the changing organizational structure of the health care industry.

· Increase recognition of the value and importance of the medical staff service and provider credentialing specialist professional, particularly among administrators and medical staff leaders.

· Promote certification as a Certified Provider Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) (NOTE: The CPMSM has been commonly known as the CMSC or Certified Medical Staff Coordinator, but NAMSS voted recently to change the name to more accurately reflect the medical staff professional’s role.)

It is my sincere hope that you will encourage the Medical Staff Professional in your facility to join the Alaska Association Medical Staff Professionals. We also hope you encourage him/her to become an active member of NAMSS. For more information on NAMSS, please access the website at www.namss.org. I truly believe that membership in the state and national organizations will make a difference, not just for them, but also for your facility as whole!

Our Annual Education Conference and Business Meeting is scheduled for April 29th & 30th at the Anchorage Hilton. You may call or e-mail for further details.

If you have any questions regarding membership or our organization please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the officers of the organization listed below.

Sincerely,

Kim Pakney, CPCS, CPMSM

President
