Account Manager (Chemical Specialties) job description

Location: Capellen (Luxembourg) Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Singapore

** This position will be home-based.

Department: Sales/Chemical Specialties Business Unit Reports To: European Business Manager (Chemical Specialties)

General Summary

As a core team member of the European or Asian Chemical Specialties business unit team, this position will manage and support the European or Asian Chemical Specialties direct customers and agents & distributors network by combining industry/product knowledge and business acumen to deliver sustainable, profitable growth utilizing the full resources of the Company to achieve the business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

· Maintain and manage the business, the relationships with existing accounts and Michelman’s agent & distributor network; this includes regular business review meetings with the agents & distributors

· Manage the key accounts and give support to the Inside Sales Representative, who is managing the basic accounts, on an as needed basis

· Develop the existing customer base

· Handle customer requests and opportunities and coordinate the efforts to grow them into new business

· Keep the Growth Management System Pipeline full and updated to ensure sustainable growth

· Enter and update the Laboratory and Technical Service Projects

· Complete on time required activity and expense reports

· Communicate and implement Michelman growth initiatives and strategy to agents & distributors and direct accounts

· Participate in the European or Asian and global business unit conference calls and sales meetings

· Perform in accordance with the Chemical Specialties Mission, strategy map and balance scorecard process

· Subject to manager’s approval, quote special prices, terms of sale, delivery dates, etc.

· Inform company relative to marketing trends

· Report competitors’ activities, new developments, plans and pricing

· Attend tradeshows and seminars

· Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Fluent in English, knowledge of any other European or Asian language is an asset

· Able to manage, motivate and guide agents & distributors

· Present professional image, both internally and externally

· Able to conduct commercial and technical discussions, both internally as externally

· High levels of self-motivation, initiative, and interpersonal skill

· Able to understand customer requests and problems, and translate them into lab projects and new business

· Able to creatively solve problems and accomplish objectives – thinks out of the box

· Willing to travel, primarily in Europe or Asia, including the potential for multiple trips per month, up to 35% of the available time

· Understands and is committed to follow the Company guidelines for business ethics, personal behavior and relationships, even under pressure

· Self managed and shows good sense of priorities and urgencies to get job done in an acceptable amount of time

· Able to enthusiastically and actively participate in a team

· Proficient in standard business office software

· Ability to quickly learn and use specialized business software (Michelman business intelligence)

· Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills; able to make effective presentations to diverse groups.

Education and Experience

· At least seven (7) years business-to-business sales experience, preferentially in an international environment, and in managing key accounts and agents & distributors

· Have a working knowledge of water-born coating technology

· Profound market knowledge and industry contacts, especially in the European or Asian coatings industry

· Master (or equivalent by experience and self-training) degree in chemistry or chemical engineering

Physical Demands and Work Environment

· Able to work for extended periods in an office environment using a computer, telephone and other office tools

· Able to travel by car and plane to visit a diverse, regional base of customers, including global travel necessary (Approximately 35% travel)

· Able to perform job duties at remote locations including industrial sites, chemical facilities, customer centers, and other locations
