ASQ Networking Seminar at Sheridan College

Sheridan College has an American Society for Quality Student Club since last 8 months with the support of ASQ Toronto Section, and are increasing their participation in ASQ related activities. As a part of ASQ vacation duration activity, an ASQ Networking Seminar was organized at Sheridan College, Brampton on 28th July, 2015 by ASQ Toronto Section.

The main purpose of the meeting was to help student interact with the professionals working in the field of Quality and get knowledge of the latest practices followed in the field of Quality by making networking and connections with the professionals attending the seminar.

The seminar started with introduction to QA program of Sheridan College by Prof. Michael Kukhta, a Professor and Coordinator of the QA program at Sheridan College. He stated the outcome of the QA program as “train your mind to think Quality”. He also mentioned the benefits of learning from mistakes. An exercise was done based on SIPOC Tool, to determine what all Qualities an industry requires from a Quality Professional, and where new students are lacking. This exercise was done by making groups consisting students and Quality professionals attending the seminar. Big Q consisting of system compliance and conformance was discussed.

After that, Stanely Aikoroje, Education Committee Chair of ASQ Toronto briefly explained a few concerned topics, such as what is ASQ, benefits of joining ASQ and the activities carried out by ASQ Toronto Section. He explained the benefits of being an ASQ Student member, and also noted the networking opportunities by means of attending the monthly meetings organized by ASQ Toronto. He mentioned about the learning the live skills by volunteering, career opportunities from the “Career Job Fair” and student appreciation by “Bob-Cardno Award” organized by ASQ Toronto.

An hour in the end of the seminar was spent on networking, for which the event was organized. Students had a chance to interact with the Quality Professionals present over there. They had a good time learning from a Quality Professional working in some industries and also making the contacts which may be helpful in future. The efforts put on by Prof Kam ho were highly appreciable for organizing the seminar in Sheridan College.
