A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Renfro Valley upon the occasion of its 75th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Renfro Valley is a small community in the hills of Rockcastle County, Kentucky. Known for its history of classic country, southern gospel, and mountain music, it is known throughout the world as a center for the preservation of quality entertainment; and

WHEREAS, Renfro Valley has an unparalleled tradition of entertainment and good music. It was founded by John Lair, a radio pioneer who broadcast live from the "Big Old Barn" on CBS radio on November 5, 1939. From that moment the radio show was a success, and the legend of Renfro Valley began; and

WHEREAS, Renfro Valley has a tradition of country music that is unmatched in this Commonwealth. Once owned by Willie Nelson, it has hosted such luminaries in the country music industry as Hank Williams, Troy Gentry, Old Joe Clark, Little Jimmy Dickens and Red Foley. The Renfro Valley Gatherin' is the second oldest radio broadcast in the country. And in 1939, the Renfro Valley cast performed for President Roosevelt and the King and Queen of England; and

WHEREAS, 75 years after the broadcast of that first radio show, Renfro Valley continues to host live performances on the stages of its Old Barn and New Barn theaters. This body hereby commends those people who have so generously given of their talents to carry on the unmatched tradition of Renfro Valley, honors the regular cast of players and the many world famous guests Renfro Valley has hosted throughout the years, and rightfully congratulates the Big Old Barn of Rockcastle County on its 75th anniversary;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate hereby honors Renfro Valley upon its 75th anniversary, and commends all those who have been involved with its growth, both past and present, as they continue to make music that is good for the soul.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Renfro Valley upon its 75th anniversary.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Susan Westrom for delivery.
