Current Duties:

Working within the 6 cylinder project team, (Excavator, Wheel Loading Shovel, Tier 2, Tier 3, BS3 and Tier 4 Final.

Supported field trials activities by managing supply of engines, spares and test components on to and off of test vehicles which were located both in the UK and overseas.

Brought specialist companies on board to enable investigation of a durability issue seen during product validation; proposed and managed installation, collection and data analysis of specialist equipment to understand root cause of problem and validate modeling of system.

Created pick lists, negotiated with Production department and picked parts for new engine builds.

Created work instructions to commission test work from the Development Department, supported Engineers and Technicians in the execution of the test plans.

Working with 4 cylinder and 4 cylinder three litre teams, created validation plans for engine development across several vehicle platforms and emissions groups. Advised on test methods and gave input into development plans from the point of view of an experienced Development Engineer.

D G Q Services Ltd, contracted to Perkins Engines (Stafford)

Created validation plans, FMEAs, test schedules and acceptance criteria in support of localization of Perkins 4000 Series engines to India.

Worked closely with Indian suppliers to ensure that technical requirements for the Indian manufactured parts are met.

Worked with UK suppliers to ensure that the new test shop for the project was specified correctly and met the validation testing requirements, worked with the Technician’s to ensure that they had a full operational understanding of the test bed, the test requirements and the validation test methodology.

Worked with UK suppliers to procure sufficient specialist capability to support rapid pre and post test parts analysis for the ‘Tiger’ programme. Outsourced fatigue testing, residual stress analysis and large castings (circa 2 tonnes) sectioning.

Organized and completed final product sign off for Perkins / Navistar engines to be launched to market in July 2013. This work included the durability testing, vibration testing, load acceptance testing and tortional vibration analysis tests. Compiled technical data for product technical data sheets.

Worked with Caterpillar Electronics to produce new engine ECM software packages (working in the role of Map Analysts), arranging and overseeing on engine software testing and releasing software to production.

Supported Perkins Global Engine Developments (Stafford) in the role of Instrumentation Specialist with Instrumentation Equipment specification, training procurement and general capability improvement work.

Senior Engineer, Electrical Engineering Department / Manufacturing Engineering Tata Motors European Technical Centre PLC.

Electrical safety advisor / trainer (high voltage DC vehicle systems).

Specified a suitable mobile data acquisition system for a 28 vehicle fleet trial, reviewing the offerings of different data acquisition manufacturers and preparing justification for supplier / equipment selection.

Prepared instructions and schedules for the assembly and installation of the chosen equipment. Provided support to the Technicians responsible for installing the equipment on the trials fleet.

Prepared data storage and post processing plans and provided tools for end users to analyse the trials data.

Additionally, supported other projects within the TMETC business in the role of Technical Specialist.

Transferred into the electrical engineering group (December 2010) to support problem identification and solving in high and low voltage sections of electric vehicle systems. Provided bespoke instrumentation solutions to allow targeted data acquisition on CAN networks in real time.

Provided consultancy services with respect to 17th Edition Wiring Regulations to the design team.

Provided and delivered electrical safety training (High voltage DC systems) to Tata Motors Development and production teams and to Tata Suppliers involved in work involving the High Voltage DC vehicle systems.

Jun 2008 to May 2010

D G Q Services Ltd. Set up a limited company to provide technical services in the engine engineering industry.

Worked, in the position of Senior Validation Engineer, Napier Deltic Validation Project (Contracted to Rolls-Royce Distributed Generation Systems), with Rolls-Royce Distributed Generation Systems in support of a major validation programme, validating new manufactured parts for the Royal Navy's fleet of 'Hunt' Class mine counter measures vessels. Specifying test bed equipment and acting as technical liaison between Rolls-Royce DGS and test bed equipment suppliers during the construction of a new engine test facility at Rolls-Royce’s plant. Creating all test schedules, build / strip instructions, measurements records, parts location data bases and supporting a number of other aspects of this exciting project. Also worked to support other activities for RR DGS as required: cold start testing, 'value engineering' activities, validation testing of electrical and mechanical systems and the authoring of product user manuals. Wrote and presented the Engineering Department FMECA process manual. Acted as 'Technical Specialist, Diesel Engines’ supporting other engineers within RR DGS, Mod (Army) and MoD (Navy).

Jan 2003 to Jun 2008
Caterpillar Defence Products, Shrewsbury. Senior Engineer, Verification & Validation within the newly formed Engineering Department of CDP. Worked on a number of projects to re-power vehicles for clients in Northern Europe and Romania. Supported customer field trials for vehicles with end users (government bodies) in the UK and Europe. Lead on vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition activities in the role of technical specialist. Developed the performance and emissions maps for BAeS ‘Terrier’ battle field tractor and cold start development of an 18 litre engine for rail use. Planned test schedules for V&V department current and future projects. Was an active member of the CDP Quality and Environmental Policy Committee and responsible for the day to day running of the measurements and instrumentation department.

Perkins Engines, Product Engineering Department, Shrewsbury. Recruited to work on the performance up-rate (including emissions tune) and development to market of existing Caterpillar electronically controlled products under the Perkins brand.


July 1998 to December 1999
Lister-Petter Diesel Engines, Development Engineer, took over the closing stages of a development program for a new engine. Repaired and re-commissioned several test rigs.


August 1990 to July 1998
Ricardo Consulting Engineers, Technician Engineer. Worked on all sizes of Diesel engines from 950cc to 212 litre. Gained practical experience in the use of Electronic Diesel Control systems. (Bosch, Lucas, Zexel and Ford systems)
