University of Limerick

A four day residential course (Monday lunchtime to Friday lunchtime) for LC chemistry teachers who want to improve their demonstration skills and would like to be able to run a chemical magic show. The course will involve a mixture of tuition, practice and the design, testing and presentation of a chemical magic show. It is essential that participants agree to stay for the whole course and accommodation will be provided on the University of Limerick campus (4 nights B&B plus other meals). There is a non-refundable deposit of €100 if cancelled after June 5th. It is hoped that teachers on the course will go back and share their expertise with other teachers in their schools. Preference will be given to early and new applicants. You should bring your favourite demo to share with other teachers.

To apply for a place please fill in and return the form below with a cheque for €100 to reserve a place, payable to “Chemistry Conference Account”. In the event that the course does not run or that you are not offered a place the fee will be refunded. Cheques will not be lodged until the end of May so please post-date the cheque if booking before April 2015. However, if a place is offered and accepted and you do not turn up then the fee is non-refundable. All the other subsistence expenses for four days and nights will be covered, but you have to make your own way to Limerick. The application form must be received by May 31st 2015 and you will then be informed if you have been successful in securing a place. Please note your cheque will be returned if the course is cancelled or you do not secure a place.

The running of the course at this subsidised price is dependent on financial support from our sponsors (Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre, Professional Development Service for Teachers, Pharmachemical Ireland and the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, University of Limerick) In the event that this is not available the costs will have to be increased. For people not teaching in a second-level school the fee is €400.
