CLEAN UP THE WEST RIVER MEMORIAL PARK IN NEW HAVEN
Event will focus on a park clean up, an assessment of its condition and creating a report as to how the area has been affected by the littering of paper, glass, metal, plastic and rubber.

New Haven, Connecticut - 94.3 FM WYBC, the students of Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School, Radio and Gateway Community College announced that they will hold the annual West River Memorial Park Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m. Car tires, cell phones and mounds of card board and paper might sound like a bad song, but these are just some of the items that could be found in the West River Memorial Park and along the West River located on the corner of Ella Grasso Boulevard and Route 34 in New Haven. Students, parents, faculty from the school and residents from the surrounding community will volunteer to clean up and catalog all the debris collected in the Park. Food and refreshments will be served to all volunteers after the cleanup.
“This is a great opportunity for the school and the surrounding community to come together to make a positive difference in the appearance of this highly used park,” said one of the organizers of the event Marjorie Drucker, Magnet Theme Content Coordinator for Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School.
After the 94.3 WYBC Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School West River Memorial Park Cleanup Day, the effort has continued each year to monitor the change and the progress made in keeping the park and river clean. Along with the students, parents and faculty of the school, residents from the schools surrounding community are encouraged to come out and help.
