Dear Parents:
Enclosed please find your 2012-2013 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Confirmation Program Registration Form.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is one celebrated by those young Catholics who are desirous of and practicing the tenets of our faith. While we share collectively in the responsibility to prepare them for that celebration, you are the primary teachers of your children. At baptism, you promised before God that you would raise your child to know God and to live his/her life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Enrolling your son/daughter in this program presumes that you are doing that.
Please do not force your son/daughter to be part of the program if he or she does not desire a relationship with Jesus Christ. Our program includes participation in the faith life of this community, and, most importantly, participation in Sunday Mass. During the year, your son/daughter will be expected to come to class sessions on Sundays before or after attending Sunday Mass. These Sunday class sessions are scheduled September through April and are enhanced by required Family Faith Sessions, service opportunities, and participation in a Confirmation retreat.
Please complete and/or make any necessary corrections to the attached Registration Form. Also, please make sure that your son/daughter completes the written essay in his/her own words. The fee for the program is $65 for 9th Grade and $100 for 10th Grade. Kindly mail or bring the registration form and payment to the OLMC Rectory as soon as possible and before the due date: August 15th.
Upon receipt of the registration form, I am presuming the following:
v That you have had the opportunity to discuss with your teen why the Sacrament of Confirmation is part of their journey of faith as a member of the Catholic Church;
v That the faith of Catholicism in word and deed is encouraged in the life of your teenager;
v That you recognize the requirement of regular participation in Sunday Mass in accordance with the teaching of Christ and His Church;
v That the process of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is something that is to be taken seriously so that your teen will participate in class, service, and retreat activities as expected;
v That your teen has been reminded that participation in the program means that disrespectful behavior cannot be reconciled with Confirmation preparation and cannot be excused.
v That at least one parent will be in attendance at the Parent/Candidate Meetings listed below. At these meetings, parents and candidates will receive the 2012-2013 Confirmation Class Schedule and other information pertaining to the program.
· Sunday, September 16th, 10-10:30am is the initial meeting for 9th Grade Parents and Candidates in the Church Hall.
· Sunday, September 16th, 10:45-11:10am is the initial meeting for 10th Grade Parents and Candidates in the Church Hall.
This year, Youth Minister and Confirmation Coordinator, Cheryl Wallace, will be coordinating the Confirmation Program. Feel free to contact her with any of your questions or concerns. Her contact information is as follows: (w) 973.334.1017; (c) 201.240.0302;
