Major Events of the Civil War Timeline

  1. Click on the “Inspiration” icon.

Hint: you may use the “Undo” option found in the edit file. This will help you if you make a mistake.

  1. Select “Templates”

3. Select Social Studies:

4. Scroll to “Chronology”-

Open

5. Change the hour glass symbol to a Civil War Symbol. Access the History library to the left. You can select the two flags, one for the Union and one for the Confederacy. If you choose, you may select another graphic representing the Civil War.

6. The title is “Major Events of the Civil War” (You will need to type this in the text box where it says timeline)

7. Enter 7 dates in the text boxes. The size of the text box will need to be adjusted.

1) April 14, 1861

2) Sept. 22, 1862

3) May 18 – July 4, 1863

4) July 1-3, 1863

5) Nov. 19, 1863

6) May 1864

7) April 9, 1865

8. Please remember to save on your student N-drive as you work. 

9. For each of the dates, you will enter the event in the space provided. The following events will be used: (you will need to place the events in the correct order)

Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

Battle of Gettysburg

FortSumter

Battle of Vicksburg

Emancipation Proclamation

Gettysburg Address

Sherman’s March to the Sea

10. Access the following web-site for information:

11. Scroll down to Civil War Timeline.

12. Browse the timeline for information. Find the information needed to fill in the timeline.

14. Enter the appropriate event under each date in the timeline. (See instruction # 9)

15. Browse the web-site and other links provided in the web-site for appropriate pictures or graphics. Copy and paste into timeline. You need at least 4 pictures. If time permits, place pictures for all of the events.

16. Under each picture, enter information in the text box regarding what happened concerning each event. You may copy and paste from the text boxes below.

17. On the events that you do not insert a picture or graphic, you will need to copy and paste a text box explaining the significance of the event.

18. Use the link key to link the events to the pictures or the significance of each date.

19. Place the web-site on the document to reference the pictures.

20. Place your name on the document. Delete any extra chronology boxes.

21. Save the document to your student drive. Select Print Set-up. Select Landscape. Print one copy to turn in. Save a copy into my dropbox.
