8th Grade Poetry Portfolio Project
This is your second quarter project in Literature. It is very important that you take your time with this project and complete it carefully…….and with love. This is your opportunity to write about what interests you, inspires you, or even concerns you. Try to write about things that you can relate to and connect with. Experiment with different types of poetry that we have discussed in class. Ten total original poems are due with this portfolio. You will be graded on the way you write and create this portfolio.
Your portfolio must include the following items:
1. A protective cover or binding
2. A title page
3. A dedication page
4. Table of contents, with page numbers and titles included
5. Create at least ten different types of poems and also indicate the type of poem
6. A creative illustration and title to accompany all poems
7. All poems must be typed (use of various fonts and styles are okay)
8. Choose one poet and write a two-page biography: double lined space, size 12, 1” margins, TNR font. This should include one paragraph about why that poet interests you.
9. Include one the poems of the poet you chose for your portfolio.
10. Write a one-page analysis of their poem: Half page on mechanics and the other half on meaning and interpretation (Look at writing style, theme, poetic techniques used).
11. Reference page (must be in MLA format)
12. Check for spelling and grammar.
