8Th Grade Graduation/Dance

MES-PTO COMMITTEE REQUIREMENTS

1. All committee chairperson commitments are ONE YEAR unless otherwise specified or circumstances arise that interfere with the completion of your term.
2. At least one committee representative must be present at all regularly scheduled PTO meetings, especially if your committee has an upcoming event. If a representative cannot attend the PTO that representative must contact the PTO Committee Chairperson (Jen Toole ) prior to the meeting to discuss any committee-related information.
3. All committees must be run in accordance with all MES school policies and MES-PTO by-laws.
4. All committee chairs are responsible for following MES-PTO banking procedures as stated below the committee description and in accordance with the Treasurer when monies are raised and collected at a PTO event. Reimbursement forms and check request forms are available on the School Website under the PTO tab.
5. The MES PTO Executive Board is available for assistance when needed. The Board members and contact information are listed on the School Website under the PTO tab.
6. The descriptions are based on past events; however, current committees can change or amend certain aspects of an event as they deem necessary with Board approval. In addition, certain events may or may not be held during particular years.

8TH GRADE GRADUATION/DANCE

June 8th

This committee organizes and runs any activities associated with the MES 8th grade graduation and dance. Committee members usually recruit 7th grade parents to chaperone the dance.

BUDGET: $2,000.00

ART APPRECIATION

The volunteers for this committee go into the classrooms of grades 1-6 during the school year to present lessons on famous artists. All supplies and materials on the various artists are provided through this program. Volunteers are also responsible for scheduling and coordinating the presentations with the teachers and other AA volunteers within the same grade.

BAND/CHORUS

These committees organize the receptions following the Junior and Senior Band and Chorus concerts, gift collections for the instructors and they provide assistance with “Band Day” and the “Dorney Park” trip.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for helping with some plantings and garden maintenance around the school grounds, and meeting with school administrators to coordinate projects. This is in addition to the school’s regular grounds keeping.

BINGO

February 24th

This committee organizes and runs “Family Bingo” nights. Responsibilities include securing the space, purchasing prizes and recruiting volunteers.

BOARD OF EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE

This person is responsible for attending the monthly Board of Education meetings and reporting back on the issues presented/discussed at the meeting to the PTO membership at the following PTO Meeting.

BOOK FAIR

This committee organizes, recruits volunteers and runs both the Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fairs for M.E.S students.

BOX TOPS/CAMPBELL’S LABELS

This committee promotes, organizes and collects GM Box Tops from the “Box Tops for Education” and the Campbell’s “Labels for Education” Programs. The Committee is responsible for collecting donations, cutting, counting and mailing submissions in the fall and the spring.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE

This committee organizes a gift drive for local families in need. Students, families and teachers can select “angels” off of the MES Christmas tree in the lobby and purchase the requested gift and/or send in money with a form that gets sent home every December.

Gifts are sorted, wrapped and distributed by this committee with the help of various MES student organizations.

DADS WIFFLE BALL TOURNAMENT

(Tentatively set for October 9th but date is subject to change)

This committee will help organize the first annual wiffle ball tournament. The tournament is open to the school and community. The event will occur in the fall.

DIRECTORY/MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

This committee is responsible for the distribution of PTO membership and school directory information also sells advertising space to local businesses. Committee will collect PTO applications and dues. This committee also is responsible for attending the Kindergarten Registration and New Student Orientations, informing incoming families about the MES PTO and their related activities. Committee members also help with the coordination and distribution of the school directory.

This committee helps run the annual “Field Day” which is hosted by the MES Physical Education Dept. The committee is responsible for recruiting parent volunteers to help set-up for the day, run the various activity stations, purchase and distribute refreshments, and assist with the clean-up.

HEALTH & SAFETY

This committee is responsible for addressing health and safety concerns around the school. This committee also organizes the annual “bike/ski/snowboard” helmet sales.

December 13th and 14th 2011

This committee organizes this annual event by coordinating and ordering merchandise for the Holiday Shop. This event is held during school hours in December. Committee is responsible for staffing the volunteer recruitment.

HOSPITALITY/COMMUNITY OUTREACH

This committee is responsible for welcoming and informing new students and parents about MES and its many programs. Volunteers must attend the Newcomers Orientation in August and will arrange for new students to be paired with a current MES student for tours of the school. The committee also provides refreshments for designated school functions, such as:
