March 5, 2017 – First Sunday of Lent

“It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” MATTHEW 4:10

Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, too, must decide to turn away from power and riches and put God at the center of our lives. How is God calling you to serve?

Forming your Faith……..We are excited to announce that Corpus Christi Church has become a partner in an exciting 24/7 on-line web-based digital formation series called FORMED, produced by the Augustine Institute and Iganatius Press. This series is designed to help adults grow in their faith at all levels – how we think, how we pray, and how we live. Better yet, access is FREEto all of our parishioners and their families anywhere, anytime on computers, tablets,or phones. Register free using our Parish Code ZD3P77.

We are currently in need of Eucharistic Ministers for our weekend Masses. Eucharistic Ministers are called upon to minister the Body and Blood of Christ. The ministers accomplish this by strengthening their faith from within and sharing it with the faithful at communion time. It is a most rewarding and uplifting experience. If you are interested in serving this ministry, please contact Fr. Damian through the parish office.

Saint Augustine Hymnal – It’s not too late to donate a hymnal In Memory of a Loved One or just having a family name in the book.

Any parishioner who would like to consider donating a hymnal as a memorial gift, for the cost of $25 per book, please call the parish office. A name plate will be placed in the front cover of the hymnal, dedicating the book to the prayerful memory of your loved one. Forms are available at the parish office.

Over the next several weeks the parish bulletin will include some information on the Catechesis on Matrimony.

The Importance and Dignity of the Sacrament of Matrimony

8. By the Sacrament of Matrimony Christian spouses signify and participate in the mystery of unity and fruitful love between Christ and the Church; therefore, both in embracing conjugal life and in accepting and educating their children, they help one another to become holy and have their own place and particular gift among the People of God.

On the funny side………………………………………….

The new minister stood at the church door greeting the members as they left the Sunday morning service. Most of the people were very generous telling the new minister how much they liked his message, except for one man who said, “That was a very dull and boring sermon, pastor.”
A few minutes later, the same man again appeared in line and said, “I don’t think you did much preparation for your message.”
Once again, the man appeared, this time muttering, “You really blew it. You didn’t have a thing to say, pastor.”
Finally, the minister could stand it no longer. He went to one of the deacons and inquired about the man.“Oh, don’t let that guy bother you,” said the deacon. “He’s a little slow. All he does is go around repeating whatever he hears other people saying.”
