7th Grade Glimpse

Communication Arts: Spelling Lesson 7 test will be on Monday, January 23. We will begin working on adjectives as well as the writing process. Reminder: All homework assignments that receive a grade below a C may be redone for grade improvement. Assignments must be asked for that day and are due the next class time. Encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity if needed.

7thGrade Reading: We are working on Unit 2: Short Stories. We will be looking at idioms and making inferences while reading. We will also be identifying the conflict and resolution of a story. Reading Log #9 will be due February 1st (Gold day classes) and February 2nd (Blue day classes). 3rd quarter AR goals must be met by March 9th. 7th Grade Math and Pre-Algebra: We will continue the unit on ratios, rates, and proportions next week. Students will be able to write and solve proportions. There will be a quiz on Wednesday (B4) over rates, unit rates, and proportions.

7th Grade Math (Mrs. Gillilan) Students in B5 will have their final lesson of their Proportional Relationships unit this week over Scale Factor & Scale Drawings. Students will have a review day on Wednesday and their test will be Friday. G4 students will learn about Indirect Measurement and Scale Factor on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Science: We will be reviewing microscopes and using microscopes to look at different items under the microscope. We will also be finishing up our unit on cells by filling out our objective sheet, reviewing and getting ready to test of cells. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

7th Grade Social Studies (Mr. Gifford) This week students will be studying Central America and the Caribbean. Students can expect a quiz over their notes toward the end of the week over the history and governments of Central America. We have had 100% of our students achieve 100% on our Continents and Oceans quizzes, without the use of a word bank! Our next short weekly quiz will be over the states in the Northeast. 7th Grade Rise- Students will continue their research for their independent studies. We will also continue our Extempore Unit. This year’s theme is “Say Watt?”. They will continue the first section which is about static electricity. If time allows, we are also doing some learning with the Rubik’s Cube Program, which we have checked out from their lending library until February 13th. 6th/7th/8th Physical Education & Health: Next week Mrs. Briney's classes will be starting their volleyball unit & Mr. Hawthorne's classes will be starting their basketball unit. If your student missed any fitness test, they may be asked to stay after school to make them up. Fitness tests are worth 20 points and we would like them to be completed as soon as possible. Please help remind your child to bring clothes and tennis shoes for participation! Especially if they like to wear boots. Students are covering Self-Esteem during their health lesson and will be reviewing and taking a quiz next week. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Hawthorne or Mrs. Briney. 7th Grade Vocal Students have been sight-reading in class. Rhythmic studies have included sixteenth, eighth, quarter, half, dotted quarter, and whole note rhythms. Students have been identifying key signatures and time signatures. Melodic sight-singing examples have included skips and steps, and two-part music. Two part sight-singing is a new skill this semester. Students are also beginning to read and sing several choral octavos in three parts.The composer of the week is Mozart.

7th Grade Art: Students will finish first official project that will utilize abstract art and texture. Students should have it completed/ turned in at the end of class Thursday 1/26/17 along with weekly sketch #2 also due by the end of the week.

Graphics 1 and Graphics 2:

Students will continue reviewing/being introduced to the basics of GIMP. We are moving on from our selection tools and we will begin learning the basics of photo manipulation and filter usage.

5th Block Plan 1:36pm-3:00pm

Band Our second semester has gotten off to a great start! We have been moving through our book and learning about cut time and sixteenth notes. Starting February 7th, we will begin our middle school jazz band rehearsals. This group is open to any 7th or 8th grade band student and will meet before school (from 7:30-7:50) on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. They will perform on our Spring Concert. 7th FACS:

The students have started working on their sewing projects. They will be doing this for the next few class periods. Those students not sewing sling bags will be weaving book marks. Please send your $10 ASAP if you have not yet done so.
