Guidelines

1. Physicals and concussions forms must be completed and signed by student and parent before you can participate in practices or competitions.

2. First practice is August 28th before school at 6:10 a.m. Afternoon practices are from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Morning practices are from 6:10 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Players are expected to be on the court and ready to practice prior to the stated starting times.

3. You must attend and workout in at least five (5) practices before you can participate in games.

4. You must attend practices. If you have more than three (3) unexcused absences, the coaches will evaluate your future on the team. Absences must be cleared with Coach Carrell. Unexcused absences are not accepted - if you do not come to practice, you will not play. If you have an unexcused absence the day before a game, you will not be allowed to play in the next game. Remember, you must be in school for a ½ day in order to count for a school day. This means arriving to school no later than 11:30 a.m. If you are not in school by 11:30 a.m. on the day of a game, you cannot play in the game that night. Missing practice due to detentions is considered an unexcused absence. Returning from absence due to illness requires a note/email from parents to excuse your absence. *If you have orthodontist appointments already scheduled, do not reschedule them. We know how hard it is to schedule these and we can make allowances for this situation. If in doubt, please email or call either coach a few days a head of time.

5. All players should have T-shirt, shorts, kneepads, and court shoes. A uniform top will be provided. You will need to provide your own black shorts for games. If you need assistance with uniform needs please contact one of the coaches.

6. Game uniforms are to be worn during game competitions and to school on game days only. Your uniform should not be worn on days other than game days. Be careful not to damage or stain your uniform.

7. A team picture will be taken on September 12th at the beginning of practice. Coaches will have picture forms ahead of time to pass out to players. Please bring the completed form with payment on the 12th. Checks should be made out to “Read Photography.” If there is something wrong with your order or you have questions please contact Read Photography.

8. Players are expected to ride the bus to and from away games. If players are going to ride home with a parent, the player will need to have a permission form completed (provided prior to leaving school each away game). A permission form also needs to be filled out if another parent or someone besides the player’s parent will be taking them home. If parents are attending multiple away games, they may complete one form for all away games. The coaches will provide the permission forms. Forms also can be found here: http://harding.cr.k12.ia.us/assets/24/6/transportation_slip.pdf

9. Remember that your schoolwork comes first. Keep your grades up and cooperate with your teachers to the best of your ability. You will not be allowed to participate in game if you have an I (Insufficient) or a teacher expresses behavior or academic concerns. You are a student athlete and being a “student” comes first.

10. No jewelry is allowed to be worn during a match. No earrings, necklaces, rings, or hard plastic/metal hairpieces. (State Rules)

11. Team assignments are based on ability, effort, and attitude. The proper combination of these will earn you a higher team placement. Our goals for the team are to learn volleyball, work together as a team, and HAVE FUN!

If you have questions about your situation, see Coach Carrell!
