Title / Apply plane geometry and produce development constructions in graphic communication
Level / 1 / Credits / 4
Purpose / People credited with this unit standard are able to: select plane geometry methods for drawing; apply plane geometry construction to drawing; and produce true shape development of geometrical solids.
Classification / Design > Design - Graphic Communication
Available grade / Achieved

Explanatory notes

1This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995).

2In the process of attaining this unit standard, evidence could be generated from more than one drawing.

3In the process of attaining this unit standard, learners are expected to use constructions for the following: bisection of lines and angles, angles (multiples of 15 degrees), tangents and regular polygons; parallel and radial line development of right prisms, pyramids and cones.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Select plane geometry methods for drawing.

Evidence requirements

1.1Problems in the drawings which need geometrical constructions are identified.

1.2Geometrical construction methods identified and selected enable the problems to be solved.

Outcome 2

Apply plane geometry construction to drawing.

Evidence requirements

2.1Application of construction provides solution in accordance with drawing requirements.

Outcome 3

Produce true shape development of geometrical solids.

Rangeright prisms, pyramids and cones with inclined cutting plane.

Evidence requirements

3.1Construction of views of geometrical solids meets development requirements in terms of the identified problem.

3.2Construction of auxiliary views meets development requirements of the problem and includes stretchout lines, true length diagrams, and true shape first auxiliary views.

3.3Construction of true shape development meets design requirements in terms of accuracy, scale, and type of construction used.

This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.

Please note

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
