Code of Professional Conduct

The South African Society of Animal Science (SASAS) code of professional conduct promotes ethical principles to guide the animal scientists in their relationship with clients, colleagues and the industry. The code thus reflects the professional commitment of all SASAS members. A member of the South African Society of Animal Science shall comply with the following code of conduct and ethics:

1.  Have due regard to public safety, public health and public interest in general.

2.  Have due regard to harmful practices against the environment.

3.  Conduct themselves in such a way as to uphold the dignity, standing and reputation of the animal science profession.

4.  Discharge their duties to their respective employers or clients efficiently and with integrity.

5.  Not to undertake animal science work for which their education, experience or background have not rendered them competent to perform.

6.  Not knowingly misrepresent or permit misrepresentation of their own or their associates’ academic or professional qualifications, nor exaggerate their own degree of responsibility for any work of a animal science nature.

7.  Not in a self-laudatory manner advertise their professional services, or in any manner that is derogatory to the dignity of their professions.

8.  Not deliberately injure, directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, prospects or business of any other registered animal scientist.

9.  Maintain and continue to enhance professional knowledge and skill as an animal scientist.

10.  Understand and comply with all relevant laws, guidelines and code of conduct, especially those in relation to animal welfare and related products, and registration as natural scientists according to The Natural Scientific Professions Act, 2003 (Act No 27 of 2003).
