  4. You will be given an in-class hanging folder in which you will store warm-ups and a table of contents that has your grade calculated on it at all times.
  5. You will be given a textbook - Holt Mathematics Course 2 (6th grade) or Course 3 (7th grade or Advanced 6th)

***Organization is KEY!!!!***

Online Resources:

● online textbook and extra resources: → math → select textbook → sign in

(username and password will be given in class)

● PowerSchool - find link on (for grades, attendance, & discipline reports)

● (tutorial videos by topic)

● (for homework help)

My webpage can be found on . My page will have a record of the work we do in class and homework assignments and will have links to the above websites as well.

[However, please note that even if an assignment is not posted on the website, it does not mean that there is no homework.]

Grades:

Students are expected to keep track of their grade at all times by keeping a table of contents in their hanging folder. (We will set up this “Grade Tracker” together in class.) However, grades will be updated weekly and posted in PowerSchool. Every entry in the gradebook will be given as a number x out of 100 (as a percent) but certain entries will have more “weight” than others, depending on what category an assignment/entry is in. Refer to the following chart:

“Professionalism”
[My definition is “doing what you’re supposed to be doing”] / “Quizzes”
[These quizzes are academic. We will have quizzes before a test.] / “Tests”
Homework Quiz (1 grade)
Notebook Quiz (1 grade)
Warm-Ups (1/2 grade)
Other Daily Assignments (1/2 grade) / Quizzes (3 grades) / Tests (5 grades)
In general, worth 1 or ½ grade
(x1 or x .5) / In general, worth 3 grades
(x3)
[some Mini-Quizzes may be worth 2 grades] / In general, worth 5 grades
(x5)

For instance, you can think of Tests as 500 points, Notebook Quizzes as 100 points, and Warm-Ups as 50 points. In PowerSchool it will appear as a percent (a number less than 100).

Homework Quizzes and Notebook Quizzes will be explained in class. Your student should be able to explain this to you, but if you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

In general, I will not give extra credit.

Grading Scale (school-wide):

97-100 A+93-96 A90-92 A-

87-89 B+83-86 B80-82 B-

77-79 C+73-76 C70-72 C-

67-69 D+63-66 D60-62 D-

Your ATTITUDE determines your ALTITUDE!!!

If you are absent:

If you are absent from class, we will miss you dearly, but you are still responsible for everything that you missed. Upon returning from an absence, you must check the “Daily record of work” board to see what you missed in terms of class work, due dates, quizzes, homework, etc. Turn in assignments that you missed into the tray in the corner the next school day. Get notes from another student or if you need a copy from me let me know and I’d be glad to get one for you.

If you are confused about what you missed asked another student and then, if you are still confused, ask me at an appropriate time. Remember… all notes and homework must be completed for future notebook and homework quizzes. (Students are not responsible for warm-ups if the absence was excused, but they must write “absent” on the warm-up paper.)

Note: Parents may request homework assignments from the school office (637-0530), beginning on the second consecutive day of the absence. Please call for homework by 8:30am and assignments will be available between 2:45-3:45.

Homework Policy and Late Work Policy – see

One Main Classroom Rule: Do nothing to hinder teaching or learning.

Consequences for your choice to interfere with the learning process may include:

● relocation

● staying after class

● after-school detention

● the Pass Room

● referral to the office and/or Saturday school

● call home

[Everything falls under this guideline... from having your daily materials and taking notes during class, to when you sharpen a pencil and when (and how often) you ask to use the restroom.]

If our rule is too hard to remember, just think RESPECT. :)

FYI:

Bathroom passes will be granted if requested at an appropriate time, but will be limited.

Don’t ask to get a drink of water - bring a water bottle to have on your desk!!!

No gum or food.

No phones.

Keys for Success:

● Hydrate your brain!

● Get 9 hours of sleep EVERY night!

● And most importantly, Attitude & Effort are two of the most important things that will help you be successful in your math career that only YOU can control!

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”

-Henry Ford
