The Component Obsolescence Group (COG) announces that the 6th International COG Conference, ‘Obsolescence and Maintainability Challenges in the 21st Century’, will be held on 29th June to 1st July 2009 at St John’s College, Cambridge, UK.

The event is the electronics industry’s only global opportunity for discussing obsolescence and maintainability issues, including counterfeiting, and combines a two-day conference and exhibition with a one-day workshop and a gala dinner. Delegates from North America, Europe and Asia are expected to attend, representing every stage of the supply chain across a wide range of industry sectors.

Ian Blackman, CEO of the Component Obsolescence Group, explained; “Significantly shorter component lifecycles, the growing threat from counterfeiting and legislation such as REACH and RoHS, as well as the impact of the global downturn, means that obsolescence is a real and everyday threat for companies within every sector. The COG International Conference brings together experts from Europe, North America and Asia and provides an opportunity to share knowledge and discuss ways in which the global electronics community and government organisations can mitigate this threat.”

The three-day event will begin with a workshop on ‘Managing Obsolescence in Legacy Equipment”, followed by an evening reception for delegates on 29th June. Two days of presentations will provide in-depth analysis of a range of topical obsolescence issues, including counterfeiting, from leading industry figures in the manufacturing, distribution and service sectors as well as from Government organisations: the Ministry of Defence, UKEA, and IECQ. A gala dinner, held in the 16th century dining hall of St John’s College, Cambridge, on 30th June, will feature, Ian Woodall, double Everest summit climber and four-times Everest expedition leader, as the guest speaker, presenting ' The Tao of Everest - The Lighter Side'.

The main sponsor for the 6th International COG Conference is the obsolescence management tools and services provider, CMCA (UK). Managing Director, Rob Crawford, commented; “By sponsoring the COG conference CMCA (UK) not only has the opportunity to promote our services worldwide, but also to identify and respond to emerging trends and issues by listening to delegates who are on the front-line of obsolescence issues”.

Information on additional sponsorship options for the COG International Conference 2009, as well as details for exhibitors, or delegates to the workshop or conference, are available on www.cog.org.uk/conferences.asp, or via email on .
