Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
Working closely with the farmers, interns will be involved in all aspects of the growing process, including bed preparation, laying drip tape, seeding, transplanting, thinning, pruning, weeding, mulching, mowing, harvesting, prepping produce, and record keeping. They will be responsible for proper washing, handling, packaging, and labeling of produce. They will also be involved in distribution at the farmers markets and will be expected to interact with the public in a mindful and respectful manner both on and off the farm. The intern positions will also be working to assist with school groups for field days.
Full time (40-60 hrs/week depending on season and weather), seasonal employment, payment scale will be discussed during interviews.A typical work day usually starts at 7 AM and ends at 4 PM with a 45 minute unpaid lunch break. The work week is either Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Intern will cover Tuesday evening and Thursday markets. It is a challenging but fun work environment where you’ll have the opportunity to work with a small group a people who share a passion for farming.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Applicants must have the desire and ability to work hard in what is often a stressful and fast-paced environment. They must be responsible and reliable, have the ability to ask questions, follow directions, be self motivated, and enjoy working both alone and with others. Strong communication skills and orientation toward detail are needed assets. Previous farming experience is helpful but not required. Applicants must be in good physical condition and able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis. Farm equipment experience is needed but not required. Most of the farming is done by hand so the work requires strong hands, wrists, back and knees, as well as a good sense of humor.

Unfortunately, at this time we do not have the ability to house interns so you are responsible for your housing and for your transportation to and from the farm.

Personal pets are not allowed on the farm.

There is no smoking or drinking on the farm.

Because the right fit is so important, there will be a one-month “trial period”, at the end of which you or the farm may terminate the internship at will if it is determined that it is not a good match.
