At the Group Trucks Operation Plant in Köping we manufacture gearboxes for trucks, heavy vehicles and marine stern drives for Volvo Penta. The 1400 employees at the site work in an industrial world class environment. The operations at the plant include machining and heat treatment of components as well as assembly of complete gearboxes. The plant is “Centre of Excellence” regarding Heavy Duty Transmissions. The responsibility is to develop and verify process concepts and solutions for global needs as well as concentrate and develop critical competences within the technology area.


What We Do
The department Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Assembly is testing all of our built transmissions in test stands. The area for the internship is within the assembly end of line testing and to explore NVH (Noise vibration harshness) technology.


What You Will Do
Study of what benefits and quality assurance we can achieve with NVH (Noise vibration harshness) in EOL (End of Line testing) linked to its investment and running cost. The study is a part of an advanced engineering project.
The study will result in benefits and way of working with sound analysis in serial production.
The aim is to identify the most effective set up for the NVH in the EOL for our automatic transmissions
Tasks: Run a working group, conduct tests in production, evaluation of results, investigate way of working with NVH

What we do:

The Business Control function is responsible for business control and credit control for the region. Vehicle Development Project Management is part of Group Trucks Technology, GTT.
GTT encompasses all product development of engines, transmissions and trucks.

What we do:
We maintain the current heavy duty modular architecture and develop it for the future technologies, legislation and new functionality. The development of technology move fast and we will see several important new functions supported by increased amount of mechatronic solutions as well as increased services supported by connectivity.

What will you do:
Electrical Architecture used in North America differs from that used in Europe. While NA will be moving to that architecture, it will be some years out until it is fully implemented. As a result, the various tools we use must be sustained and not phased out. The objective of this assignment is to work with the software support team in Gothenburg to understand the tools used today in NA versus the global tools, and ensure the needs of NA are taken into account.

·  Review current tools used in NA with support team, including SW configurator, Protom, TSP, VDA and SW Download for vehicles in US.

·  Conduct evaluation/comparison of new tools (Protom, Jeep etc) which support TEA2+ Architecture.

·  Establish bridge plan of tools which will ensure NA Architecture is supported until TEA2+ is implemented.

·  Identify and list the changes required in global tools to support NA software functions

·  Map user roles and evaluate missing roles/access for NA team and highlight roles/changes needed

·  Present roadmap of when changes will be implemented on global tools and how continued support will be available for NA in the meantime.

·  Complete final report detailing bridge plan with timing.
