Make the following Section a part of the Standard Specifications:

SECTION 694 MICROCOMPUTER SYSTEM

694.01 Description. This work includes furnishing, installing and maintaining a fully operational microcomputer system (including software) for the Engineer's use according to the contract.

694.02 Materials.

(A) General. Furnish new, top quality hardware and software components including interfaces, controller cards, cables, etc. necessary to make them into a fully functioning system.

(B) Microcomputer. Furnish one of the following portable microcomputers which shall be configured to meet the specified minimum requirements:

(1) Portable microcomputer.

(a) Gateway 2000, Colorbook DX250 by Gateway 2000.

(b) Toshiba T4700CS by Toshiba America.

(c) IBM ThinkPad 755C by IBM PC Direct.

(d) AST Ascentia 900N by AST Research, Inc.

(e) Equivalent as accepted by the Engineer.

(2) Minimum Requirements.

(a) CPU, 486DX2, 50 MHZ processor with 8 KB internal cache with integrated batterysaving system.

(b) 9.2inch dual-scan or active color LCD with accelerated local bus graphics.

(c) IBMPC disk format and software compatibility.

(d) MSDOS 6.2 or later.

(e) Windows 3.1 or later.

(f) 8 MB RAM upgradable to 20 MB.

(g) 120 MB minimum, hard drive builtin

(h) Doublesided, doubledensity 1.44 mb disk drive, builtin.

(I) Integrated pointing device, builtin.

(j) Suspend/Resume operation feature.

(k) AC/DC charger with extra battery.

(l) SVGA port to support two screens simultaneously.

(m) Ports/Slots: Parallel, 9pin serial, PS/2 ports (one PCMCIA Type III slot or two PCMCIA Type II slots)

(n) Weight under 7 pounds without AC adapter.

(o) Size smaller than 10" x 12" x 2.5".

(p) Carrying case to include space for charger and extra battery.

(q) One year warranty with tollfree tech support.

(C) Printer. Furnish one of the following printers which shall be configured to meet the specified minimum requirements:

(1) Printers, Parallel.

(a) Lexmark IBM Laserprinter 4039 12R Plus by Lexmark International, Inc.

(b) HewlettPackard Laserjet 4 Plus by HewlettPackard.

(c) Canon LBP860 by Canon.

(d) Equivalent as accepted by the Engineer.

(2) Minimum Requirements.

(a) Full compatibility of the selected microcomputer with Windows applications.

(b) Internal bitmapped fonts and graphics capabilities;

(c) PCL 5, PostScript option with automatic emulation switching and all ports active supporting various letter enhancements accessible from a front LCD screen control panel.

(d) Processor: 16MHZ RISC.

(e) RAM: minimum 2 MB.

(f) Resolution of 600 x 600 dpi.

(g) Print engine speed not less than 8 ppm.

(h) Fonts: minimum 20 TrueType, PCL, or Postscript.

(I) One year warranty with tollfree tech support.

(j) Fitted dust cover.

(D) Software. Provide the current versions of the following, complete with all disks, cards, tutorials, manuals, etc:

(1) Microsoft Office for Windows.

(2) WinFax Pro 4.0 for Windows.

(3) Norton Utilities 8.0

(E) Other Components. Also supply the following:

(1) Surge protector and line filter, 15 Amps, four outlets with circuit breaker control and surge indicator light.

(2) 15-inch Super VGA color monitor and cable compatible with the microcomputer Super VGA port, 0.28 dot pitch, resolution 1024 x 768 pixels, 75 Hz vertical refresh rate, and flat-square type picture tube.

(3) 50 Double-Sided 3.5-inch High Density 1.44 MB Diskettes suitable for the disk drive.

(4) 3.5Inch storage containers: one 50 count, five 10 count and five designed for transportation of at least one diskette each.

(5) Disk drive cleaning kit of a type recommended by the selected disk drive's manufacturer.

(6) Two boxes each of 14 inch x 8.5 inch, and 8.5 inch x 11 inch letter quality printer paper (minimum 2000 sheets per box).

(7) A sufficient number of selfadhesive, color coded labels appropriate for use on diskettes if not included with the diskettes.

(8) A full duplex, autodial, 9600bps, direct connection modem equivalent to the HAYES Optima 9600 with appropriate software.

(E) Substitutions. Due to the competitive computer market, pre-bundle packages of hardware and software may be available at significant discounts. New, improved versions of products are constantly entering the market. Submit requests for substitution of hardware or software items to the Engineer for acceptance. Submit such requests with the detailed list of the microcomputer system. See 635.03(A).

694.03 Delivery, Installation, and Maintenance. Submit a microcomputer system proposal in writing for acceptance to the Engineer within 10 days of award of the contract. Upon written acceptance, furnish and install the portable microcomputer, software, and printer within five working days. Furnish and install the other components within the next five days. Provide expert, technical assistance for a total of five working days to satisfactorily set up the complete system.

When the above time frame cannot be met, immediately make available a temporary computer system that is functionally identical to the portable microcomputer system. Provide full, unrestricted, expert assistance to set up programs and files on the temporary computer system and later, to successfully transfer the files to the portable microcomputer system. The Engineer will consider the cost for the use of the temporary system including the technical assistance and the materials used such as diskettes, paper, etc as included in the various contract items..

Maintain the components and replace broken or damaged equipment within two working day.

The entire system shall remain the property of the State after completion of the contract.

694.04 Measurement. Microcomputer system will be paid on a lump sum basis. Measurement for payment will not apply.

694.05 Payment. The Engineer will pay for the accepted microcomputer system on a contract lump sum basis. Payment will be full compensation for the work prescribed in this section and the contract documents.

The Engineer will pay for the following pay item:

The maximum bid allowable is $10,000. If the proposal submitted by the bidder indicates an amount over the allowable maximum, the Engineer will reduce the amount to the allowable maximum and will adjust the 'Sum of all Items' in the proposal schedule to reflect such reduction. For the purposes of comparing bids and determining the contract price to be inserted in the contract awarded to the bidder, if any is so awarded, the Engineer will use the 'Sum of All Items' adjusted according to the foregoing and will deem the bidder's proposal to have been submitted for the amount as reduced and adjusted in accordance herewith.”
