Outer Banks Tour
May 2-5, 2017
Day 1 – Tuesday, May 2 -
6:15 AM - Buses arrive at Brawley Middle load. 6:30 AM – Depart
Bag lunch at a rest stop – approximately 11:30 – 12 noon.
2:30 +/- Visit QE II site – including the ship, settlement, museum, Indian town, fossil area, etc.
5:00 PM - Depart QE II/Roanoke Island and check into the Ramada Inn – Nags Head (1701 S. Virginia Dare Trail, KDH) Freshen up for dinner. Each person will be given $10 cash to purchase dinner at various fast food restaurants in the area. Each bus will go to a different location with students on board. No walking to eat.
Beach lesson after dinner. 3 science teachers will divide the group
A private, professional security guardwill be on duty for Brawleyeach eveningfrom 9 PM to 6 AM.
Day 2 – Wed., May 3 - Get ice from the hotel before you leave this AM!
7:00 – 8:00 AM - Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Jockey’s Ridge State Park at 7:45.
8:00 AM – 9:30 AM - Visit Jockey’s Ridge State Park
9:30 – 11:30 - Visit Wright Brothers Memorial
11:50 AM - Go directly to Jennette’s Pier to eat lunch (pizzas will be delivered) 12:00 – 12:45 +/- Lunch
1:00 – 4:00 PM - Two buses will stay at Jennette’s Pier for 3 programs: Fishing, Beach Exploration and Wind.
Two will go to the UNC-CSI (Coastal Studies Institute) for programs. The UNC-CSI program is
entitled “Shipwrecked”. (located at 850 Hwy. 345. One mile on right – past Skyco Road)
****Groups will switch after approximately 1.5 hours. Finish by 4-4:30 PM. ****
5:30 – 8:30 PM - Return to the hotel for Blackbeard’s performance (5 PM+/)
After Blackbeard performance – enjoy a hamburger/hotdog dinner with fixins’ & dessert.
Day 3 – Thurs. May 4th - Get ice from the hotel before you leave this AM!
7:00 – 8:00 AM - Breakfast at the hotel **Subway lunches delivered to the hotel before group departs.
Visit Bodie Lighthouse and Hatteras Lighthouse (1:00 climb (preferred) 2 PM – Ranger talk – if available) (Hatteras climbs are first-come, first-served. No reservations taken. )
Teachers will provide a heavy snack at some point during the afternoon.
After visiting Hatteras, the group will visit the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum (with donation)until 5:00 PM.
Travel back to Nags Head.
Beach lessons completed by teachers. Station Rotation.
Group may visit WINGS (time allowing) (teacher’s decision)
7:15 PM - A taco bar buffet dinner with dessert for dinner tonight!
**After dinner, a DJ will entertain the group (with age-appropriate music) tonight until 8:00-8:30 PM.
