588 criminals nabbed, valuables worth of Rs. 71.4m recovered; says SSP
ISLAMABAD, October 18, 2015: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad
Police arrested 588 criminals during the current year including mostly
those involved in heinous crime and recovered valuables worth of Rs.
7,14,37,900 from their possession.
Addressing a press conference here at CIA Headquarters, the SSP Islamabad
Sajid Kiani said that SIU got significant success against criminal elements
and accomplished various assigned task in a responsible manner. He said
that IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan categorically directed all police
officials to accelerate efforts against criminal elements following which a
remarkable success has been achieved in reducing crime rate.
SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas, DSP CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon and other
police officials were also present on the occasion.
Highlighting the success story of SIU of Islamabad police, Mr. Kiani aid
that various teams of SIU were constituted under supervision of SP
(Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas to trace those involved in crime cases of
heinous nature and a total of 588 criminals were nabbed during the ongoing
year.
A total of 17 persons involved in murder or attempt to murder cases,
fourteen kidnappers and accused involved in taking away gold ornaments
worth Rs.42,35,000 during dacoity were also nabbed.
He said that nabbed criminals included 08 extortionists, 288 dacoits, 18
POs, 14 kidnappers and others. These teams, he said, also arrested 288
dacoits involved in snatching items, 70 Burglars, 40 accused involved in
car/bike theft, 98 accused for having illegal weapons and narcotics and 18
court absconders.
The recoveries made from various accused included one truck, one excavator
machine, several motorbikes, gold ornaments, jewellery, clothes, LCDs,
Computers, Digital Cameras, household articles, electronics equipment and
porn movies.
The SSP Sajid Kiani said that SIU also recovered 111 Pistols, 483
Cartridges, over 133 kilogram hashish, 16 kilogram opium and 12 bottles of
liquor. After completion of investigation, all the arrested accused has
been challaned to the concerned competent courts.
Sajid Kiani said that extortionists, dacoits and accused involved in
snatching vehicles after hiring them were also nabbed while three kidnapped
persons were also recovered. He said that 25 notorious gangs were busted
and its 129 gangsters were nabbed.
SSP Islamabad appreciated this performance and directed all the police
officials to continue efforts to curb crime. SP Investigation Islamabad,
Mr. Muhammad Ilyas has said that it is the prime responsibility of police
to ensure protection of the lives as well as property of citizens and every
effort should be made to accomplish this task. Later, the SSP handed over
the looted valuables to their actual owners who posed greater confidence on
Islamabad police and thanked its officials for making sincere efforts in
tracing the criminals.
