5 ingredients of Emotional Intelligence

# 1 KNOW THYSELF! -- # 2 SOOTHE THYSELF!

# 3 MOTIVATEYOURSELF!

You are a Victor – not a Victim!

In all…things …we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Rom 8:37

Emotional Wisdom is RECOGNIZING,taking RESPONSIBILITY for and RAISING our own emotions. I once confronted a new kid breaking a rule. He said, You don’t have to tell anyone. I answered, You don’t understand. I’m the one they tell. I am in charge. When it comes to your life, God put YOU in charge. Don’t worry about getting caught. Hold yourself accountable! When we start to do wrong, we often look to see if anyone is looking. Be more concerned that God sees and that YOUsee! Have higher standards for yourself than anyone else does. Take responsibility for your own life. Never wait for others to motivate you to succeed. You must motivate yourself:

1) To control your impulses and delay gratification in pursuit of higher goals. In the marshmallow test, 4 year olds were told that if they didn’t eat the marshmallow in front of them, they could have two when the adult returned. Watching them try to resist is hilarious. Some resisted their impulses and received the reward. Most didn’t. These children were followed for years and those with impulse control at age 4 were more successful in every area of their lives! When we resist impulse spending, unhealthy foods, sin, addictions, self-pity, laziness or angry words, we lay the foundation for our own success & happiness. Keep your eyes on the prize of long-term happiness (Philippians 3:14).

2) To never give up in tough times. When we choose to motivate ourselves by choosing hope and optimism, we have the strength to keep going when others quit. When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Whether you expect the best or the worse, you will get what you expect. This is the power of faith! Those who score higher at optimism score higher at creativity and problem solving as a result. When we believe we can succeed, we look for how to make it happen! When we are convinced we will fail, we don’t have the emotional strength to give it our all. This is true in sports, school, career, problem solving and relationships.

3) To rise higher and achieve your dreams and then to dream bigger dreams. Some people wait for things to happen and some people make things happen. Don’t wait for someone else. Get yourself up in the morning! Pick yourself up when you are down! Don’t wait on open doors, pound on doors till they open! Some people think everything is predetermined. Jerry Falwell spoke at a seminary that thought only the elect could be saved. He told those young preachers, I found out that the more doors I knocked on, the more people got elected every time! Raise your standards! Lift your goals! Dream God sized dreams! Never forget, you serve a God Who “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” Ephesians 3:20.

Self Motivation is the #1 Trait of High Achievers in Life!
