4th Congressional District Art Competition

This year’s theme: “Honoring America’s Heroes”

Description:

This is an annual juried competition for high school art students in the 4th Congressional District of Colorado and is organized and sponsored by Congressman Ken Buck. The art will be exhibited from Monday, April 9th through Friday, April 20th, 2018 at Douglas County Libraries: 100 S Wilcox St, Castle Rock, CO 80104.

April 9th thru April 20th “Honoring America’s Heroes” Art Show Exhibit

Friday, April 20th Awards Ceremony & Reception at Douglas County Libraries: 100 S Wilcox St, Castle Rock, CO 80104.

Doors open at 5:30pm

Program starts at 6:00pm

Art Pick-Up Information:

Art should be taken with your students or the respective teachers after the Awards Ceremony & Reception on April 20th!

If both the student and teacher are unable to attend on April 20th, art work will be separated between the Greeley and Castle Rock offices to be picked up from – which will be based on where the artwork was dropped off originally.

Rules:

This competition is open to high school students (grades 9-12) from schools in the 4th Congressional District.

Artwork must be two-dimensional, and when framed, no larger than 28 inches by 28 inches, no more than 4 inches deep, no more than 15 lbs. in weight, and within the following categories for acceptance into the show:

Painting-watercolor, oil, and acrylics

Drawings-pencil, colored pencil, markers, ink, pastels, and charcoal

Mixed Media-use of two or more medium’s such as pencil, ink, etc.

Computer Generated Art-original computer generated images

Photography -can include computer editing (although keep integrity of the piece)

-Each entry must be an original concept: The entry may not be a reproduction of an image from a third party’s work in the same or any other medium; the work may not infringe upon the rights of any third party; the work may not violate the U.S. Copyright Laws.

-The artwork must be framed or ready to hang for the competition and show: Because the entire weight of the art piece will be hung from a center point, framed art must have a sturdy wire hanging mechanism. If art is chosen for the grand prize, the winner must have their work professionally framed. The winner will receive further instruction regarding their artwork after the awards ceremony.

-If the artwork is abstract in design, please indicate on the back side which side is up with arrows.

-The art work has to have been created in the school year 2017-2018.

-If the student does not want to sale their art work, please have them label it as NFS (Not for Sale) on the student form.

-We reserve the right to refuse any entries that are deemed inappropriate.

-Artwork Entry Form: Please PRINT LEGIBLY or type and include all contact info possible.

 We will make special arrangements for delivery of art work for schools in outer counties of the district, please contact Andrea Hall to make arrangements at (970) 702-2136

 Very Important: Students who attend a school in another congressional district are eligible to enter this competition if they live in the district.

 We reserve the right to reject any art work that doesn’t have a proper hanging mechanism.

 Lastly, all art work must have a label with all student information on the back.
