4th CECAD PhD Student and Postdoc Retreat
Dear CECAD Postdocs and PhD students,
To further strengthen the scientific and social interactions among us, we would like to invite you to our “4th CECAD PhD student and Postdoc Retreat”, on March 2-3 2015, at Hotel Novotel in Maastricht (Netherlands).
Whether you are in or outside CECAD building, whether you are a newcomer or a veteran, as long as you are a PhD student/Postdoc in CECAD groups (including MPIs), please join us! Participation is free of charge.
Top 4 reasons to join:
1. To share stories of your ongoing projects
2. To learn from experienced colleagues and solicit their help
3. To stay "in the loop" on exchanging research ideas and job opportunities
4. To explore the beautiful and international Maastricht as Hotel Novotel is close to the historical city center
Registration
Why wait? Please register today by filling out the attached registration form and send it to . The deadline for registration is 25th January 2015. Take into account that places are limited! Along with the registration form you can send your abstract too (you will find the template for the abstract within the registration form). If you are interested in giving a talk, please state so in the registration form so you abstract can be taken into consideration for further selection. Everybody is strongly encouraged to send and abstract with the registration. In case your research is so far in a preliminary state and there is no much data to discuss, you can describe your research aim or working hypothesis instead.

The speakers for the talks will be selected among the registered PhD/PostDocs by the CECAD PhD/PostDoc committee following appropriate selection criteria including abstract quality, maximum people with the same laboratory affiliation and registration date. Please send your abstracts (max. 200 words, no graphs or figures should be included) together with the registration form as soon as possible. Moreover, everybody is strongly encouraged to bring an A4 summary (including graphs and figures, a “mini poster”) of his/her own ongoing research project to discuss in the round tables.
For the round table, attendees will be divided into different small groups according to research field (please, make sure you state this also in the registration form). In these small discussion groups, each attendee will have the time for presenting his/her ongoing research project (or work hypothesis if the research is in a too early state) to other PhD students and PostDocs working in the common field.
Final program will be posted as soon as the speakers are selected.
Venue
The retreat will take place in the four stars Novotel Hotel in Maastricht. Don’t miss the opportunity to participate!! Besides the scientific enrichment you will have the chance to visit the wonderful city of Maastricht.
Touching Belgium on its west and just a few miles from Germany to the east, Maastricht is the capital of Holland’s southernmost region, Limburg. A town rich in history and culture, Maastricht boasts two wonderful town squares: Vrijthof, with Sint-Servaas Church, Sint-Jan's Cathedral and many bars, cafes and restaurants; and Markt, home to the town hall and, on Wednesday and Friday mornings, a fantastic vendor market. The city’s Vestigingswerken, or old town fortifications, are another big draw.
In the evening on the March 2nd you are welcome to visit the city center with the free bus provided by the hotel and enjoy the sightseeing.
Transportation
A free of charge coach service has been organized to transport all the participants to Maastricht on March 2nd and back to Cologne on March 3rd. If you plan to get there yourself by other means, please let us know as soon as possible.
