Outdoor Play and Outdoor Clothing

The wet and dreary weather we had in November was a good reminder of how beneficial playing outside can be. The number of “in days” in November made a noticeable difference to student learning and behaviour.

Whenever possible students will be outside before school, at recess & lunch. Please send them to school with a warm jacket, gloves and appropriate footwear. If your child is missing a jacket etc. please remind them to check the Lost & Found near the gym. We have accumulated a significant number of items since school started. Parents are welcome to have a look as well. We know how fast children grow; so other options are the number of Thrift Stores and the Salvation Army that you can pick up affordable warm winter clothing. We also have a small supply in the office.

Safety and Security

There have been a number of events locally and provincially that have reminded us of the importance of school security. We would like to remind you of the following expectations to keep our school as safe a place as possible:

  • Morning Supervision & Front Doors - Student supervision begins at 8:40am. Students should not arrive before this time unless there is an extracurricular activity planned.
  • Office Doors - Our secretary’s day does not begin until 8:30am. While, Mr. Selva and Mr. Messenger are sometimes in the office beforehand they are often in meetings. This makes it impossible to properly supervise who is coming in and out of our building. As a result our office doors may be locked until 8:30am. They will be open at 8:15am on Tuesday and Wednesday for Breakfast Program.
  • School Visitors – Visitors to our school must sign in at the office. This includes parents or family members just dropping items off or bringing in students a few minutes late. Safety requires us to be consistent about this with all adults. We will deliver the items or call the student to the office for you.

Unscheduled parental visits into your child’s classroom interrupts student learning. Please make prior arrangements with your child’s teacher if you wish to assist or to have a discussion with the teacher.

  • Parking Lots – We ask parents not to park in the staff parking lots particularly the one by the Kindergarten area. Please avoid walking students through the lots. We have had a couple close calls with vehicles backing up.
