The Irish Wheelchair Association is a voluntary organisation dedicated to the achievement of full social, economic and educational integration of people with physical disabilities, Cuisle is their holiday centre:

Christmas is a very special time at Cuisle, guests spend Christmas in the centre and staff and volunteers make every effort to make it a memorable experience for everyone. Volunteering at Cuisle at this time is a lot of fun and promises to be a very rewarding experience.

The age and background of the guests varies, all the guests are physically disabled and some of the guests may have speech impairments and / or intellectual disabilities. Where appropriate the guests are accompanied by carers and volunteers are not required to provide personal care for the guests. Activities will include lots of entertainment and music, if you play a musical instrument please bring it with you. Please note that this is a short project, volunteers will stay at Cuisle for 4 nights only. It is not possible to stay at Cuisle either before or afterwards as the centre will be closed.

Work:Socialising and interacting with the guests. Volunteers are also asked to help in the kitchen for approximately one hour each day.

Accommodation:Dorm. Towels and bedding provided. Meals are provided by the centre.

Language: Fluent English is essential in order to communicate with the guests.

Qualifications: Volunteers need flexibility, initiative and independence.

Location: Cuisle is in an isolated area in the countryside, in the grounds of DonamonCastle, 15km from RoscommonTown. The weather will be cold (average of 5 degrees C in December), it will probably rain a lot and possibly snow too.

Extra information: Important: We will request a one-page motivation letter from all applicants. Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection procedures will be applied- On receipt of volunteers' application forms VSI will request a Police Check and the names and contact details of two people who can provide references for the volunteer. We will also request volunteers to complete a ‘Declaration Form’ stating the absence of a criminal record that would preclude the volunteer from working with children or vulnerable adults. Important: Please send the volunteer application form first and VSI will send details of these extra requirements, this will ensure a place is reserved for volunteers.
