4-H Food Stand Coordinator Job Description

Page County Fair

Responsible to:

Page County Extension Council and Heidi Carter, Page County Extension Director (CED)

Purpose:

Manage the 4-H Food Stand for the Page County Fair, including preparation before the fair, operation during the fair, and cleanup upon completion of the fair

Responsibilities:

Preparations before the fair

  • Secure a 4-H Food Stand Assistant. The 4-H Food Stand Coordinator supervises the 4-H Food Stand Assistant.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies in storage area
  • Tell CED if there are needed improvements in the kitchen, e.g. electrical outlet not working
  • Locate sources of products and supplies; the Extension Council requests that the 4-H Food Stand Coordinator buy within Page County.
  • Coordinate with the CED to set up accounts with vendors in Page County before ordering supplies and food
  • Keep an accounting of quantities and orders
  • Make arrangements for and accept deliveries of orders
  • Meet with CED and County Youth Coordinator to select menu items and set prices in June
  • Determine standard serving sizes
  • Clean and set up kitchen
  • Establish sanitary procedures for all kitchen workers

Operation during the fair week

  • Prepare coffee and plate rolls by 7:15 a.m. for judges on Tuesday of the fair week
  • Make lunch for judges on Tuesday of the fair week
  • The Food Stand hours during the fair are Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The 4-H Food Stand Coordinator is expected to have breakfast ready by 6:30 a.m. The 4-H Food Stand Coordinator is expected to ensure the kitchen is clean after the 4-H Food Stand closes at 6:30 p.m.
  • Delegate tasks to adult and youthvolunteers, including food preparation, serving, washing dishes, table cleaning, and daily clean-up of dining area
  • Maintain a safe working environment and enforce safe handling of food
  • Tell CED what money denominations are needed
  • Coordinate with Debbie Swanson, County Youth Coordinator,to pick up cash from the register. Debbie Swanson is responsible for putting the cash into the night deposit at PCSB Bank.

Clean up upon completion of fair

  • Inventory equipment and supplies and return to storage areain the attic of Wibholm Hall
  • Clean kitchenand refrigerators
  • Make a copy of products and supplies used for CED as a reference for the next year
  • Tell CED suggestions for improvement

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in food preparation and food service management
  • Knowledge in food costs, service portions, and retail pricing
  • Knowledge in food safety including food preparation, handling, and preservation
  • Ability to work with people in a friendly, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Ability to foster a teamwork atmosphere
  • Ability to train adult and youthvolunteers and to work with them in a friendly, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Dependable and organized
  • Access to dependable transportation

The 4-H Food Stand Coordinator will complete forms for a background screening. The standards of the background screening must be met before the Extension Council approves the hire.

The Extension Council and staff provide records and recommendations from past years, volunteers for the Food Stand and cash register, and support.
