4-H FCS Project Lesson Plans

Area of concentration / Consumer Decision Making
Lesson Title / Lesson 4- Taking Notes
Overview / The 4-H members will learn how to take effective notes when judging a consumer class.
Learner Objectives:
4-H members will be able to: /
  • Apply lesson 1-3 when taking notes and judging classes.
  • Learn short hand notes rather than righting everything out.
  • Practice judging classes.

Materials Needed /
  • Blank Paper-1 piece of paper
  • Class from Lesson 3
  • Pencil

Activity / Using the Lesson 3 judging class, use the note taking method below to write your own notes. (Please make a copy of format to give to members) Use check marks and shorthand when needed. See the below example/answer notes below. Remember!!! 4-H members are NOT allowed to bring any paper with a written note format or their own format written on the paper before the contest. It is a good idea to help the youth learn how to quickly make their own table so it does not take too much time. The table format below is just a reference to use to teach them how to take notes. (Table may be increased to see it more clearly).
