PORTFOLIO

Portfolios are becoming accepted as a way to communicate specific information about your knowledge, skills and competencies. The 4-H Award Report Form does not effectively show skills learned or documented knowledge gained academically, in teamwork and/or in personal management skills. Therefore, with a portfolio you are able to present yourself in a manner that gives more of an understanding about you, the individual person and your growth.

Your Portfolio Documentation could include pictures of you and your project, your involvement in an activity i.e. committee or volunteer work, babysitting, lawn work, paper delivery or other forms of responsibility. Newspaper clippings about your work with the date, certificates or letter of thank you or congratulations, photo of hobbies, copy of “best works” in photography, art, special honors or recognition, involvement in team work, i.e. sports, etc.

PORTFOLIO CHECK LIST:

Notebook. All pages are to be placed and secured into a notebook.

4-H Award Record Form is to be placed loosely inside notebook.

Title Page – your picture, name, age, name of club, years in 4-H (first page in notebook)

Table of Contents – can be placed on back of Title Page.

Documentation – Place your most important materials in Portfolio. Count each page with front and back sides as one page (not to exceed 15 pages) and show your most recent efforts at the beginning of each grouping. Plastic sleeves for each page work well to keep everything together.

Divider Pages inserted for each grouping and to extend past the Title Page and Documentation Pages. Suggest dividing your Portfolio: 4-H Involvement, School Involvement, Community/Other, Hobbies/Personal. (Divider pages do not count as number of pages.)

Pictures in Portfolio need to have date and brief description.

Newspaper Articles need to have date of publication.

Maintain consistency in printing – type or handwritten throughout Portfolio.

Portfolio should show progressive development of accomplishments if focusing on a specific task.

Ribbons, pins, patches, etc. are not to be included.

QUESTIONS – on completing the Award Report, including the Portfolio – contact your

4-H Club Organizational Leader.
