EXECUTIVE MEETING

A.Call to Order

1) Approval of Agenda. Hyrnck/Anderson. Carried.

2) Approval of Minutes: January 14, 2015 Asdal/Araki. Carried.

B.School Reports

Harrison: Holding a Festival of the Arts.

Kent: Several cases of lice. The field is very muddy and students are tracking in mud.

Coquihalla: Experiencing ongoing internet problems and construction issues. Boston Bar: Not present.

Silver Creek: Ice storm clean up is not quite finished.

Hope Secondary: Audit went well.

District: Not present.

AESS: Not present

WINTER GENERAL MEETING

C.Reports

1) President

Retirement Seminar: Very successful. Over 30 attendees. Will organize one for younger teachers.

Lice: Principals should be organizing regular checks and following SD policy regarding containing lice infestations.

Attendance Tracking: Many districts are implementing attendance tracking. Being pushed by the Ministry as a cost saving measure.

Allocation Fund Cheques: There were several issues in many of the other districts. We have had only a couple of teachers not getting their cheques.

Learning Improvement Fund:SD hired 4 more teachers. Anecdotal reports from teachers indicate that having more supports for students is making a difference.

MyeducationBC: replacing BCESIS. It has been delayed, but it will be coming online in the next year.

Fingerprinting: Discussion re the requirement for some teachers to be fingerprinted as part of their criminal record check. Can cost up to $85. Lynne is in discussion with the district and is asking for the district to pay.

2) Pro-D Chair

There are 70 days and lots of money left for Pro-D this year.

3) Treasurer

Chequing: $110,356.63; Savings $20,350.94; Shares $44.21. President teaching generates $23,600. Still lots of bills to pay but FCTA will be in the black this year.

4)District Committees

Education: Audit went well. Report on Health Survey. Measures students’

lifestyle eg sleep, nutrition, technology use. Superintendent’s report on achievement was discussed. District working with NYTIP and UBC to encourage First Nations teachers.

Operations and Facilities–No Report

Policy- The computer usage policy was discussed.

Budget- A new credit card to be used for expenses to centralize spending and save money. Discussion about the Coquihalla expansion.

Technology- No report available.

Health and Safety: The health and safety maintenance requests for Coquihalla were both dismissed. The two requests included an emergency exit and putting an overhead projector in the ceiling.

1)BCTF AGM

Election of delegates (2)

This year the BCTF AGM is going to take place in Victoria on March 14 -17.

Jon Polishak and Amy Smith will be attending with Lynne Marvell and Truls Asdal.

2) LR Report

BCTF AGM: BCTF dues were discussed. FCTA dues are the lowest in the province. BCTF Presidents have been nominated are the same as last year. Some new executive members are running.
