Main Idea:

In the story Thank You, Mr. Falker, the main idea was about Trisha having a hard time learning to read until Mr. Falker came to help her. I know this because Trisha kept going through each grade and had a hard time reading. She was also getting made fun of, but she still kept trying. Finally, Mr. Falker taught her to read.

Juicy Question:

Why did Fern get so upset when the pig was going to be killed?

Answer:

Fern thought it was unfair to kill the pig just because it was a runt. She really likes creatures and does not think it should be killed.

I know this is true because on page 2 Fern says, “This is a matter of life and death, and you talk about controlling myself.”

This proves: Fern could not stand the runt getting killed by her father because she ran outside and tried to stop him.

Sample 2:

Juicy Question:

What kind of a character or person is Fern?

Answer:

Fern is a gentle, caring, and kind character who can sometimes be dramatic.

I know this is true because on page 4 it says, “Then she opened the lid again, lifted the pig out, and held it against her cheek.”

This proves: Fern is very caring towards animals because she is cuddling the pig. She is also dramatic because she went outside and yelled at her dad to not kill it.
