DrewUniversity provides a limited amount of housing for graduate and theological students in four different facilities: GreenVilla Suites, Loantaka Houses and Wendel and Tipple Halls.

Housing is limited and is not guaranteed.

Students may apply for housing according to the policies below and based upon their need. Housing is available for single students and students with spouses, domestic partners and/or dependent children under 18 years of age. The University will make every effort to satisfy the need of each applicant within the policies, but reserves the right to make final decisions regarding housing assignments.

Do not plan to arrive on campus without a confirmed housing assignment!

The following qualifications, rules and regulations apply to residents in all Graduate and Theological student housing. Housing is available for:

  • Students who have officially accepted admission into the University;
  • Students who have paid an enrollment deposit and housing deposit;
  • Only full-time, degree-seeking students of the University. A minimum of nine (9) credits per semester or maintenance and matriculation are required to classify a student as full-time for the academic year.

All residents agree to assume responsibility for the facility to which they are assigned and agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the University as described in the Housing Occupancy Agreement. Failure to comply with these rules and the University’s policies as stated in the student handbook is grounds for termination of the Housing Occupancy Agreement.

The University shall not be liable for damage or loss to any resident’s personal property from any cause whatsoever. The University does not carry insurance on the personal property of students; therefore, residents are strongly advised to seek renters’ insurance for their belongings.

Housing is a privilege that the University offers to its students. In the case of a separation or divorce, the University will continue to offer housing to the student only. However, as the student’s family size changes, he or she may no longer be eligible for their assigned unit and the University reserves the right to relocate the student to an appropriately-sized unit.

Structural modification of the residence facility is not permitted.

No pets, except non-meat-eating fish, are permitted in University residence facilities.

The University reserves the right to make reassignments and adjustments in housing.

The University reserves the right to enter rooms or buildings without a search warrant

  • For maintenance, inspection or repair purposes;
  • To maintain safety and security, and
  • For disciplinary enforcement purposes.

Solicitation is forbidden.

HOUSING DEPOSIT

A housing depositof $250 (non-refundable after July 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester) must be submitted along with the Housing Application to the address listed above.

HOUSING ASSIGNMENTS

Housing assignments are made in conjunction with the Dean’s Office of the appropriate school. Factors such as scholarship, date the application is received, degree program and availability of space are considered in assigning incoming students.

You will be notified by the Housing Office if space is available to meet your needs. Housing is not guaranteed. Housing is assigned to families only if appropriately-sized housing units are available. Only the student and his/her immediate family, that is, spouse or domestic partner and dependent children 18 years of age and under, are permitted to live in University housing. All family housing units are unfurnished.

If your housing need changes, contact the Housing Office as soon as possible.

If you defer admission or withdraw this housing application, then you must reapply to be considered for subsequent semesters.

SINGLE STUDENT HOUSING UNITS

These units are furnished. Students have the option of 9- or 12-month occupancy.

GreenVilla Suiteshave single and double rooms located in a shared living environment. All students have access to kitchen, bathroom, dining and living areas.

Loantaka Houseshave single rooms in a shared living environment. Students have access to kitchen, bathroom, dining and living areas.

Students assigned to the GreenVilla Suites and Loantaka Houses must make individual arrangements for telephone, internet and cable service. Bedrooms are furnished with a bed (mattress 35” x 80”), dresser, desk and chair for each student. Common areas have dining and lounge furniture.

COMMUTER STUDENT HOUSING UNITS

Commuter apartments are located in the Tipple Residence Hall. Up to three students are assigned to a one-bedroom unit and may use the room for as many as three nights per week. The unit is furnished with a bed (mattress 35” x 80”), dresser, desk and chair for each student. The unit has kitchen facilities and bathroom. Basic phone service, internet and cable service are provided.

FAMILY HOUSING UNITS

These units are unfurnished. The following policies for campus family housing apply:

  • No more than two children may share a bedroom in a two- or three-bedroom housing unit.
  • If the two children sharing a bedroom are under the age of ten, they may be of the opposite sex.
  • If one child is over the age of ten, he or she may only share a bedroom with another child of the same sex.
  • Children who reach their tenth birthday before July 1 will be affected by this policy for the start of the academic year.

FAMILY HOUSING UNIT
STYLES and CAPACITY LIMITS

Small Efficiency units are located in Wendel and measure approximately 12’ x 16’. Units are reserved for single students as available. No children are permitted. The maximum capacity is a family of one person.

One-bedroom units are located in Wendel and Tipple. The living/dining/kitchen area is approximately 12’ x 14’ and the bedroom is approximately 10’ x 12’. Bathrooms have a stall shower. These units are reserved for couples, couples with one child under the age of ten or a single parent with two children of the same sex or two children of the opposite sex if both are under the age of ten. The maximum capacity is a family of three people.

Two-bedroom units are located in Wendel and Tipple and are similar in size and layout to the one-bedroom unit, but with one additional bedroom. Two-bedroom units are limited to couples and single parents with at least one child over the age of ten, single parents and couples with two children of the same sex or two children of opposite sex under the age of ten. The maximum capacity is a family of four people.

Three-bedroom units are located in Wendel and Tipple. Three-bedroom units are limited to couples and single parents with at least two children of the opposite sex, one of whom is ten or more, or three children. The maximum capacity is a family of six people.

Housing is available at the end of August for the fall semester and at the end of January for the spring semester. The University cannot accommodate new students in the residence halls any earlier!

Documentation can be a marriage certificate, domestic partnership agreement, mortgage agreement or deed showing joint ownership, co-parenting agreement or another document that establishes a joint responsibility for each other’s welfare and financial obligations.

FAMILY HOUSING UNITS (12-MONTH RESIDENCE)

Family housing is offered to married couples, domestic partners and families. All units are assigned based on family size and the University’s policy on capacity limitations. Small efficiency, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units are available. All units are unfurnished. No more than two children may share a bedroom. Children sharing a room must be of the same sex or both under 10 years old as of July 1.

SINGLE STUDENT HOUSING UNITS (9- or 12-MONTH RESIDENCE)

Single and double rooms are available. Double rooms are slightly less expensive than single rooms, but two students will share a bedroom. Singles and doubles are in shared living environments in either suites or houses. All students have access to kitchen, bathroom and lounge facilities. Bedrooms and common spaces are furnished. Bedrooms have a bed, dresser, desk and chair for each student.
