Dear Grade 11 STARS and Families:

Today, our grade 11 students learned about what to expect during their final year at CNHS. Soon, this school year will be over, and grade 11 students will becomeGrade 12 potential graduates. Grade 12 will be an exciting and busy year for you as youwork to finish your last year of high school and prepare for life after Carleton North.

Students viewed a presentation that had tips to help their grade 12 year be a successful one. Some of the highlights of the presentation include:

1) knowing and staying aware of what credits you need to graduate

2) knowing what credits you need as admission requirements for post-secondary school by checking with those post-secondary schools

3) keeping aware and staying on top of various due dates such as ordering grad rings, yearbooks, hoodies, and meeting scholarship deadlines

4) a review of the NBCC application process, and

5) having a plan post-graduation.

This is an important time in your life with many post-secondary decisions to be made. There are many things you can do now and in the summer months to help you with those decisions. If you plan to attend college or university, check the admission requirements at the post-secondary institutions you may be considering. Ensure that you are registered in the mandatory high school courses needed to meet entrance requirements for your program of interest. Contact schools to schedule visits for toursand open houses at schools that interest you. If you plan to work after high school, there is a program called the Youth Employment Fund that will help you find work. There are also apprenticeship opportunities and opportunities for students to work in the Canadian Armed Forces.

In the first month of grade 12, we will meet again to review in more depth what you will need to be considering for your last year of high school. Students, if you have questions, feel free to come and see Guidance. Please remember to review the important information and helpful websites on the back of this sheet.

Sincerely,

Jana Brennan

Vice-Principal / Guidance Teacher

Some Important Information and Dates:

New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) has aFirst Qualified, First Accepted application process. Through this approach, students who meet the admissions requirements who apply first will be admitted first. Grade 11 students were eligible to apply as early as April 1st, 2018, for entry into NBCC programs beginning September 2019. With this new early admissions process, it is important for students to research the programs and apply as soon as possible.

October 23, 2018 – The Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admission Officers (A.A.R.A.O) will be hosting a post-secondary fair at CNHS. Various universities, colleges and private technical schools will have representatives here at CNHS for students to meet to discuss future plans and for you to gather information about various schools.
