1.INTRODUCTION

Riverside Junior Rugby Union Club Inccommenced operation in 2003 fielding four junior teams. We have steadily grown since from 41 registered junior players in 2003, to over 220in 2010. In 2011we aim to hold our playing numbers at a steady level to ensure we have adequate space for all teams to get the most out of the facilities.

A management committee comprising volunteers including a Club President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Registrar and Football Manager manages the operation of the club. If any parents have any concerns regarding the management of the club, they can advise their team manager, or any management committee member, who will raise the matter at the next management committee meeting.

Riversideaims to foster a strong community spirit and provides the opportunity for members of our local community to contribute to the provision of organised sporting activities for our children. Volunteers are at the core of the club’s operation.

Riverside currently sub-leasesits club grounds and facilities at Bulimba Street, Bulimba from the Bulimba Junior Sports Club Inc. (BJSC). The membership fees for Riverside include payment for membership in the BJSC.

2.CLUB ETHOS

Riverside Rugby is about providing a fun, safe and - family atmosphere for children to learn and play rugby union. A key component of our ethos is that all players, regardless of gender, playing skills and ability, are to be given equivalent game time over the season, subject to their reasonable commitment to attending training and games.

4.VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

The club relies heavily on parents to fill a range of volunteer roles during the course of the year. Each team requires the following positions to be filled:

  • Coach
  • Manager
  • Touch judge
  • Field marshal
  • Referee (for home games for U6 to U9 teams only).

For volunteer roles and responsibilities please refer to club website resource library page.

In addition, teams are expected to provide volunteers to help setup and pull-down fields for home games and to assist with the BBQ on Friday nights. Teams are rostered for these tasks. A season roster will be provided once the number of teams has been determined and details of each week’s roster will be included in the weekly newsletter. Volunteer support is critical to providing the right environment for your child to enjoy playing rugby and for the club to maintain quality administration. It also provides an opportunity for parents to meet others and adds to the already strong community spirit that exists within the club.

Regular club training night is Friday night from 6-7pmfor most juniors (Walla, mini, midi) unless otherwise determined for a particular team. Senior sides have the option of training until 7.30pm. 6.WET WEATHER PROCEDURE

Rugby is a game that can be played in the rain. It is the state of the field that determines if it is safe to play. If it is raining and has not been heavy for more than a day, matches will generally still be on. Our home ground at Bulimba is very well drained. A Brisbane Junior Rugby Union (BJRU) procedure exists to determine if fields are safe to play on.

On the morning of scheduled games a club official will liaise with the BJRU Regional Committee and a decision will be made. The decision to play or not will be communicated to the club by 6.50 am. Team managers will then be advised. Team managers will then be in a position to communicate the decision to team members from 7 am. Managers are encouraged to organise a telephone ‘tree’ among team members at the start of the season in order to share to the task of ensuring that all members of the team are notified accordingly. Team members are encouraged to keep off their contact phones during this time. Please remember that if you do not receive a call the game is still on.

12.ALLOCATION OF PLAYERS TO TEAMS AND TEAM SIZES
