- If the slab grab Riba is opened and the jaws are closed, push them together so that they can be opened again. Maybe you might have to unlock the set screw first.
- Now lock the set screws [A1] tightly.
- Use the slab grab’s rubber buffers [B1] as a carrying handle to prevent a injury into the shearing area [C1]
- If the slab grab Riba is open then push the jaws together so that the safety hook [B1] is fixed (see in picture 5.1)
- The slab grab Riba is ready for use(see picture 5.1).
6.2Transport by using the slag grab Riba
- With the slab grab RIBA, you can lift the stone slab vertically as well as horizontally.
- If you move a vertically standing stone slab, fix it in order to prevent a fall (e.g. an adjustable slab stand)
- Open the slab grab Riba and put it onto the centre of the stone slab.
- Now it has to be put into the hook of the lifting device by using the two eyes of rope. [B2 Picture 5.2]
- The stone slab has to be dry, free of wax, oil and sand. The surface of the stone slab which is to be lifted also has to be even in the area of contact with the slab grab!
- Now put your slab grab Riba with the lifting device in the middle of the stone slab.

- Release the hollow set screw [A2] of your slab grab Riba (see picture 5.2)
- Now the slab grab Riba is unlocked
- Take care that the pull-lift and the lifting device have a suitable carrying-capacity to carry the stone slab and the slab grab itself.
- Lift the slab grab Riba with the lifting device until the stone slab is hanging and take care that the slab grab is not swinging while lifting it. If necessary change the position of the slab grab and put it closer to the middle of the stone. Don’t lift jerkily!
/ Attention! Danger!
Never walk or stay under moving load! /
- Now the stone slab can be lifted for the transport. Don’t lift jerkily!
- While transporting avoid any bump and swinging. If necessary fix the stone slab and chose another, suitable way to move the slab.
- Make sure that the area you are placing the slab on has a lifting capacity that is high enough.
- When the stone slab is put down it has to be ensured against falling. As soon as the stone slab touches the bottom, the slab grab Riba get open. Don’t lift jerkily!
/ Danger of toppling over for not fixed cranes! While turning over the stone slabs there might be shears which could lead to a falling of the crane! Turning over of stone slabs in connection with not fixed cranes or cranes which can not be adjusted is not reliable! /
Picture 5.3 – Positioning the stone slab /
- The stone slab can also be put on. To do this only bend the stone slab to one side. Be aware that the stone slab might break by the influence of its own weight.
- Be aware that an unfixed crane while putting on a stone slab might topple over because of the high shear forces!
- Now put the stone slab on by using the slab grab Riba. Push the stone slab to one side and while doing this, lower the stone slab until it is completely lying on the bottom.
- To lift the stone slabs just operate in the opposite way. Attention: danger of a toppling crane!
- The stone slab Riba has to be lowered until the jaws loose the stone slab.
