P.A.D.S. NEWS

MARCH 2014

Firstly, thank you to everyone who went to the 4-Way Match on Sunday 23rd March and helped Packington take

2nd place this year. Even though it was cold and muddy, what a great venue and how nice to be under cover.

The Beer & Skittles night was most enjoyable although numbers were a little thin on the ground this year which

was a shame. Let’s hope a few more members will support the evening next year.

Unfortunately the annual New Year’s walk had to be cancelled because of the weather and it is unlikely that this

will be rescheduled because of the number of members wishing to compete in the many shows now held.

…………………………………………………………………

Thursday, 24th April will be the final training at Swallowfield this year, AS WELL AS BEING COMPETITION NIGHT, so we will need to pack the trailer after training. Consequently, as many members as possible will be required to help us to do this. Again, when the trailer arrives at Dorridge Park on 1st May, we will need as many members as possible to help unload it so there will probably not be much training that night. You could use the time to give your dog some exercise in the Park after everything is taken from the trailer and put away in the container. The more of us there are to do this job the quicker it will be finished and the less work for everyone concerned!!!!!!!!!

……………………………………………………………….

Could I just remind you of the rules whilst training at Swallowfield:

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and in all places at Swallowfield unless they are working

on a course.

Please try and restrict barking as it may disturb the family living at Swallowfield and a lot of the dogs

do not like having to be so close to barking dogs (neither do a lot of the handlers). It should be part

of your dog’s training for him/her to be quiet when asked - and I do know how hard this is!

If there is a dog working on a course, please give that dog adequate space when itleaves the course

to avoid confrontation and please don’t throw balls or toys aroundthe perimeter of the course whilst

a dog is working – it may distract him/her and cause problems if the dog working decides to come off

the course to get the toy!

If you have to clear up any dog mess whilst training, pleas do NOT leave the bag on topof the wooden

arena perimeter – nor indeed anywhere in the arena. Please take it home or put it in the bin that is

usually at the top of the pathway towards the car park.

Please also note that your dog should be wearing a static collar and not a choke chain or even a

half-check chain.

Once back in the Park, training starts at 7.15 p.m. for everybody who wants to train. Please try and keep your dogs from barking all the time. It is part of their training to be quiet when you want them to be. Most of

the above rules also apply to Dorridge Park.

………………………………………………………….

There are a few places left on Martin Reid’s final training sessions starting on 27th March, as follows:

8.15 p.m. – 9.00 p.m.9.00 p.m. – 9.45 p.m

Natalie and LucyJulie and Holly

Sue and BillyKaren and Molly

(6 places left for beginner and non-competing dogs)Di and Abby

Graham and Jess

(4 places left for more experienced and competing dogs)

If you would like to take one of the places on either of these courses, please put your name down on the list towards the back of Emma’s book, which is always at training. Cost is £24 for the 4 weeks, which covers the cost of weekly training and Martin’s - fee quite a bargain really.

………………………………………………….

You will see from the above that our Show is held on Monday, May 26th. Help is expected from ALL MEMBERS as

it is the profit from this Show that supports the Club financially. Debbie will shortly be asking you what job you

would like to do at the Show so if you know what you would like to do please let them know asap or else you may

well get a job you don’t want to do!! Full training will be given for all the jobs we need you to do so don’t worry

that you won’t be able to cope. Basically the jobs requiring help are:

ScrimerWhen a dog leaves the start line, the automatic timing starts and the Scrimer

then watches the JUDGEand marks down any faults given. At the end of the dog’s

run the Scrimer writes down the dog’s time together with the faults, on the pad provided.

ScorerSits at the score table and marks the dog’s score on the sheets provided. The

Padder will bring the result of the dog’s round to the Scorer.

PadderTakes the pad from the Caller to the Scrimer and then, when that is completed, takes

it to the Scorer.

CallerHas a list of competitors in his Ring and will call up to certain running numbers to keep

the queue going and ensure the queue is not too long.

LeadsTakes the dog’s lead from the start of the course to the end of the course, ready and

waiting for the dog when he finishes his run.

PolesReplaces poles that the dogs have dislodged.

…………………………………………………..

You will also see that we have been asked to run a ring at the Bromsgrove (probably on the Sunday). This is in

return for them running a ring for us at our show. If you are not going to Bromsgrove on both days but would like

to go on one, perhaps you would bear this in mind. In return for helping run the ring, we are given refreshments throughout the day, lunch and ringside parking so that you don’t have to leave your dog far away. You will also be given plenty of timeto exercise your dog and run him in the competitions. Please let Debbie know if you can help.

……………………………………………………………

Our New Beginners Course starts on Thursday, May 15th but is already full so, unless someone drops out, we are unable to take any more future champions until October 2014

…………………………………………………………….

Annual Barbecue and Competition Night will be on Thursday June 19th – more points to win in the Club League.

Food and soft drinks supplied by Packington. Friends and family welcome. Rosettes and trophies to be won.

……………………………………………………………

When training, please ensure that you help put equipment in and/or out and don’t leave it to the few old faithfuls

who seem to get the job both ends each week. It really isn’t fair. So, lots of help getting equipment in and out

and also attempts to stop your dogs barking non-stop, and we will all be happy.
