Purpose / This unit standard is intended for people who are working on a dairy farm, and recognises the skills and knowledge required to assist with the maintenance of a milk plant and farm dairy equipment in their role as a milk harvester.

Explanatory notes
1Definitions
Workplace procedures refer to the verbal and written instructions to staff on procedures for animal health, welfare and management, and include local dairy company standards and requirements.
Cups can also be referred to as clusters.
2Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes, but is not limited to– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Animal Welfare Act 1999, and their subsequent amendments.
3Examples of farm dairy equipment include, but are not limited to - teat sprayers, drenching systems, electronic identification, yard washers.

Evidence requirements
1.1Identifies and corrects faults in milking machines.
1.2Replaces worn or faulty rubberwarein accordance with workplace procedures.
Rangemust include cup liners and at least one other rubber component.
1.3Maintainsfarm dairy equipment to ensure effective use.
Rangeevidence is required for at least two items of equipment.
1.4Records maintenance events and repairsin accordance with workplace procedures.
