Title / Direct quenching and air drying for hot dip galvanizing

Purpose / This unit standard is intended for those specialising in the hot dipping area of the hot dip galvanizing process.
People credited with this unit standard are able to direct and monitor quality of quenching and air drying for hot dip galvanizing.

Explanatory notes

manufacturer’s instructions.

2 Health and safety procedures must be followed in accordance with workplace and legislative requirements for all tasks leading to assessment of this standard. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used throughout operations in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.

3 Definition

Company procedures refer to all documented policies and procedures of the candidate’s employer at the time of training including, but not limited to, those relating to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Direct quenching for hot dip galvanizing.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Quenching requirements are determined in accordance with company procedures.

1.2 Work to be excluded from quenching is managed in accordance with company procedures.

Range includes but is not limited to – attaching no quench or air cool tags, identifying unsuitable components.

1.3 Quenching is directed in accordance with company procedures.

Range solid, hollow, fabricated, double-end dipped components.

Outcome 2

Direct air drying for hot dip galvanizing.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Air drying requirements are determined in accordance with company procedures.

2.2 Air drying of components is directed in accordance with company procedures.

Outcome 3

Monitor quality of the quenching and air drying for hot dip galvanizing.

Evidence requirements

3.1 Consistency of the quenching process is monitored in accordance with company procedures.

3.2 Consistency of the air drying process is monitored in accordance with company procedures.

3.3 Where applicable, records of quenching and air drying are kept in accordance with company procedures.
