The New Mexico Impact Fund
Convenings Grant Application
Open Cycle
OVERVIEW
The New Mexico Impact Fund is a mini-grant program offering funding to active W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) grantees. The primary focus of this program is to utilize collaboration and coordination among organizations and key stakeholders as a means to make a more significant impact toward improving the lives of children and families. WKKF has provided a grant to The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico to establish and administer the New Mexico Impact Fund (NMIF).
WKKF places the optimal development of children at the center of the work and also explicitly calls for healing the profound racial gaps and inequities that exist in communities. WKKF believes in supporting and building upon the mindsets, methods and modes of change that hold promise to advance children’s best interests generally, and those of vulnerable children in particular. Concentrating resources on early childhood (prenatal to age 8), within the context of families and communities, offers the best opportunity to dramatically reduce the vulnerability caused by poverty and racial inequity over time.
Through a lens of racial equity, community engagement and leadership, proposals to the NM Impact Fund should address the systemic and structural barriers that cause vulnerability for children and families around health, education and family economic security, with a specific focus on families with young children (prenatal to age 8). Within New Mexico, WKKF focuses on Bernalillo, Doña Ana, San Juan and McKinley Counties, and on tribes and Native American communities. For more information about WKKF’s priorities, please visit www.wkkf.org.
REQUEST TYPES
In response to feedback received directly from grantees, through our community conversations and through the 2015 WKKF grantee survey, we have added the CONVENINGS component to the fund to further support our grantees in coming together to strategize, coordinate and maximize the impact of the work.
CONVENINGS
Purpose
Grantees have indicated how valuable it is to bring WKKF grantees together to learn, deepen relationships and develop strategy. Thus, the New Mexico Impact Fund’s CONVENINGS grants will provide NM grantees support for strategic convenings with other WKKF grantees and partners. Awarded grantees will be responsible for defining the convening purpose, developing the agenda, and fully managing all aspects of the convening. Applicants must demonstrate in their proposal how the convening will help advance WKKF priorities. Funds could be used to pay for convening related expenses such as facility fees, meals, participant travel expenses, and speaker fees. All activities must be strictly nonpartisan, in accordance with all IRS regulations.
Grant amount
The New Mexico Impact Fund’s CONVENING grants will be for a maximum of $2,500.
Partner requirements
CONVENING proposals must involve at least two (2) active WKKF grantees.
Reporting
At the end of the grant period (exact due date will be included in the grant agreement), the lead organization will submit a brief report (not to exceed three pages) to the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico summarizing the following: attendees (name, organization and total number), purpose, outcomes, and next steps. The report format will be included with the award letter and grant agreement.
TIMETABLE
The New Mexico Impact Fund’s CONVENINGS grants operate on an open cycle. Timelines for the approval and award of proposals are within 30 days of the request. Proposals must demonstrate if there is a need for an accelerated timeline.
