The NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A) is pleased to invite you to the SHAPE-sponsored FNBDT Workshop, held at Royal Military Academy (RMA), in Brussels,

26 and 27 February 2003 at 09.45 hours (Registration between 8.30 hrs and 9.30hrs)

RMA is conveniently situated in the heart of Brussels/Europe and is easy to reach. The Academy’s conference facilities are able to hold the large audience we expect for this event.

FNBDT is seen as a good solution for the NATO requirement for secure end-to-end multimedia communication. FNBDT is a concrete solution that can establish secure endtoend communications between different terminals in heterogeneous networks, e.g. GSM, PSTN, ISDN and IP.

The FNBDT Conference is intended for potential users, purchasers, and suppliers/manufacturers of military, government and commercial grade end-to-end security equipment. The objective is to develop a better understanding of the FNBDT potential and the commercial opportunities; to exchange information on the current standardization status and to point out a way forward in a broad multi-national and industry environment.

We are planning a progressive programme tailored to achieving a basis for the further development of the FNBDT system as a future standard for wide-spread use by military, government and private/commercial users. Sessions cover a wide range of topics including latest developments, architectural issues, legal issues, licensing and intellectual property rights.

For 26 February we have planned overview briefings on major aspects of the further multinational development of the FNBDT system. As an introduction, the new NATO communication architecture for the next decade will be introduced and explained. Briefings are scheduled from the US National Security Agency, the owner of the FNBDT information. A number of other nations will present their national perspectives.

For 27 February we are planning in-depth briefings, covering technical and legal issues. There will also be an interactive session, in which a number of further development strategies will be discussed. A proposed agenda with topics is attached. The final agenda will be sent to you before the workshop.

The FNBDT conference discussions and presentations will be in the English language and conducted at the unclassified level. The enclosures provide administrative instructions for those planning to attend the meeting. Attendees should complete the enclosed registration form and fax it to the point of contact provided on the form before 31 January 2003.

Hotel information for the meeting is provided as an attachment to this letter. You must make your own hotel reservation. Travel direction details for the RMA are also provided as an attachment to this letter and available on the WEB at http://rma.ac.be/rma.

For further information on administrative issues, please call NC3A Conference Services on +31(0)70-374-3022, fax +31 (0)70-374-3029, e-mail
