Maintenance Staff

Job Description

Under immediate supervision of Maintenance Supervisor, maintains all parks & recreation grounds and facilities; Operates grounds maintenance machinery; maintains equipment, tools and vehicles in good working condition; mow grass, trims shrubs, plants flowers, shrubbery and trees; removes debris from parks & recreation areas, performs minor repairs to grounds and facilities; janitorial needs; rental/event set-ups, prepare for seasonal inside sports, maintains building and facilities to a high operational standard,. Performs other related duties as required.

Park and Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain cleans parks and recreation ground
  • Trims, edges and weed around sidewalks, buildings and other fixtures
  • Plants and trims grass, trees and shrubbery
  • Assists in repairing playground equipment
  • Applies fertilizer, insecticides and weed killers as directed
  • Clean culverts, drains and ditches
  • Rakes, drags and lines playing fields
  • Removes litter and empties trash receptacles for park and recreation facilities
  • Assist in minor repairs to all parks & recreation facility buildings, grounds, and equipment (irrigation, fences, bathrooms, etc)
  • Assist in loading and unloading heavy equipment onto trailer for transport to work site
  • Cleans and maintains the supplies for all needed facilities and parks

o  Repairs to any equipment

o  Assist or Set-ups that cannot be performed solely by the facility manager

o  Janitorial needs (assist with) that cannot be performed by the facility manager

o  Check all Heat and Air units

o  Remove any Hazard

o  Keep buildings to a high standard of use

  • Repair any broken or misused items, windows, doors, etc

Equipment Maintenance

  • Performs minor technical maintenance to equipment and vehicles, adds fluids, tightens nuts and bolts, oils moving parts, etc.]
  • Keeps assigned equipment clean and supplied for use
  • Ensures tools and hoses are in good working order and cleaned after use
  • Runs safety inspection on equipment notifies Director if any major problems
  • Use pressure washer to clean exterior of vehicle and equipment to remove mud, dirt and debris

Related Duties

  • Makes necessary changes for seasonal sports
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Written reports on injuries, equipment, needs, assessments

Job Specifications

  • Knowledge of City of Lincoln policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the department policies, rules and procedures
  • Knowledge of small engine repair
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of lawn care equipment
  • Knowledge of simple hand tools
  • Skill to drive and operate lawn care equipment
  • Skill to use simple hand tools
  • Skill to perform carpentry tasks
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under various weather conditions
  • Ability to work with colleagues
  • Ability to understand and follow oral directions
  • Report to and work directly with Maintenance Supervisor

Have Experience In

  • outdoor and indoor maintenance
  • performing heavy manual labor preferred
  • the operation of trucks and other light duty automotive equipment

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Alabama driver license
  • An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations up to and including a criminal, past employment, and reference checks. See City of Lincoln’s background check/investigation policy.
  • Must meet the city of Lincoln‘s employment physical standard which includes drug/alcohol screen.
